rain damage?

I was walking on campus at my college yesterday in light rain. I had my laptop in my computer backpack. the exterior is polyester/nylon and the interior is 100% nylon. the model is a samsonite 700 backpack series. When i got inside a building i checked my bag and there were rain drops on the exterior, but it didn't seem really soaked. i checked inside and it didn't look like it was wet. I tried my laptop today and I seems to work fine. I'm worried that my usb ports (tried them too and work fine i guess) won't work well when transfering data to my external drive. How can you tell if the usb ports are damaged? Will the data being transfered become corrupt if the ports were damaged by rain? And what about my pc?

Chances are if nothing has happened yet, then you're fine. Electronics can usually survive moisture provided they aren't powered on when they are wet.

true, except that wasnt the case for my old gameboy games. they got a bit wet (the cartridge part did) and every time i put it in the gameboy, i have to take it out and blow into it. Is that different from a pc? I'm just worried about corrupt data resulting in any usb data transfers.

Water is used as a cleaning agent in many plants that manufacture the printed circuit boards in computers, so chances are that your computer won't sustain damage from your walking in the rain. As for the USB ports, they should be fine as well if you just let them dry out for a while after you got indoors.

there is only one way to know if you have damage. USE IT. no one here is psychic.

Sounds like you had more issues of dust with your game boy...
But on topic, if water did not touch your laptop, then don't worry. You have to remember that the air where ever you are has moisture in it; even in the dead of winter at -50 degrees C there will be some moisture content in the air. Not saying running electronics in -50 is good, but that there will always be moisture in the air, and even though your bag may be wet, there was most likely not enough water to do any damage, even if for some reason you had your laptop running in your backpack.
