(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

hello everyone... how's everyone's day

well first i want to thank Goranpaa for helping me and teaching me how to build my Gaming rig ty

well i have a NZXT Apollo silver case.. and i have 3 120mm fans.. but now the heat is here the fans are not really helping.. a friend told me i should go water cooling but i have no clue about it.. so if anyone here tell me should i go that route or should i do something else.. if i should go water cooling can anyone give me some info on it and what products i should look for? ty...

move to canada where it is always cold in our igloos

haha no, sorry, you should wait for the people who actually know what they are talking about and I'm sure they can help you out.

lol i hate the cold.. ty though :P

Water cooling systems are expensive and are more for those who are doing heavy overclocking. You could try getting some better fans and mod the case if need be, Goran might know more about the fans.

Posted by: goranpaa

You're welcome. It just was fun trying to help you.

Yeah, I agree to what FadedMaster says about water cooling. And you still will be depending on the actual room temperature, as the water cooling system use fans for the radiator.

Then you have all the splashing with water, anti algae liquids etc, bleeding the system for air bubbles and the leakage risk on top of that.

The best way to start. Is to try to do something about your actual room temp first. There are small, floor, air conditioners that is very effective. O.k. they are pretty noisy one have to say. But is probably the best solution, without having to fiddle with the liquid cooling.

Besides, you have good fans in your case. So an AC aggregate in the room should be enough to keep you and your room / rig cool.

Othervice, one of the Asetek phase shift cooling cases are the most effective soloution. But the premium edition cost about 600 bucks and the Extreme edt. twice as much.

The downside besides the price, is, that you will have a case that sounds like a fridge.

But if you still wanna go down the water cooling road? Then Danger Den and Swiftech is the best stuff.

Also, a good and easy to use water kooling kit is "Corsair Cool", external water cooling kit.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produ...ductCode=375007

Pair it up with this vga water block and you have a nice little water cooling kit. This VGA block is also compatible with the 8800 cards.

http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/swmcvgacowim.html

If you wanna take it a step further? Then Corsair, have a separate chip set water block for the Cool kit.

This could also be an easy soloution. But then you will have to retire your NZXT Apollo case.

If you get this case? Then get the Swiftech VGA water block above. Replace the 3, noisy Antec 120mm fans that comes with the Antec P180 case, for 120mm Noctua or Nexus fans for ex. And you have a mega silent case with extremely good cooling.

But as said, try fixing the room temp first anyway. And see what that may give you?

Another option is to go with an air conditioned case. I haven't seen one advertised in a while, but I remember seeing one that Tiger Direct had for $400 or more. As far as water cooling goes, if you have the dough maybe you'd want to go with something like this? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...0666&CatId=1510

I really don't know though. I think you'd want to add up the cost and see what option would be the most needed hardware for the least money without all the problems Goranpaa mentioned. To me water cooling doesn't sound worth the effort.

thxs guys for the info and so forth, well i fixed the wires in the case and i added a HD cooler.. so the temps droped.. so that will be good for the time being till the summer hits then differnet but by then i would have my ac out... thxs guys

Speed Fan is measuring my PC's temps as perfect for temps 1 & 4 and on the cold side for temps 2 & 3. At the moment my system is in a case with only a single fan on its side. I had to do major surgery on my PC on Tuesday because the power switch on my case failed. Here are some pics.... (I forgot to plug in the video card since my old card didn't require a power plug-in.)

The case is an old one with broken front USB ports and improperly labeled wires for the front audio. Note that the side has a small LED fan. It's the only one in the case. I went into the BIOS and set the multiplier to 224 instead of 244 because of the lack of fans. I'll be setting it back when I get a new case to transfer everything into.

Good job!

When it's time for a new case.

Check out the CoolerMaster Centurion 534. Cheap, well build, 120mm fans and great looks. There are the possibility to add a 3third 120mm for additional cooling of the hdd's.

Ask FadedMaster what he thinks about this case?

Good and silent extra 120mm fan:

nice case.. thxs and next week when i am off of work i am going to do some mass cleaning to the pc... i still dont like the way the wires are but its fine now.. but still...

btw.. what do you think of this case: COOLER MASTER Stacker 830

Posted by: goranpaa

Yeah, the cable routing is always a problem. It took me 3 serious attempts to arrange the cables in my P180, before I was somewhat satisfied.

The Stacker is a very nice case, cooling and size vice. But pretty loud ( the mesh front). On the other hand. you can have tons of fans in there lol.

Another cooling monster is Antec Nine hundred. 120mm Tricool fans, and then a top 200mm fan.

Posted by: Alchemist

ok.. now i love both case's... but which one is better?

Posted by: goranpaa

They are as you say both very nice. But I think the CM Stacker is a bit bigger (Fulltower) So you have lots of space for big videocards like the 8800 and X1900 cards for ex. And it should be very nice for liquid cooling if you wanna go down that road some day?

The Antec case is a big midtower. But I'm a bit dubious about the 200mm fan. It should cool very well. But such a big top fan, will also allow a lot of noise escaping from the top hole. And as there is just that Antec fan, that is the only 200mm on the market. You wont be able to replace it with a more silent fan if you want to?

If I where to choose between the Antec and the CM Stacker. I would pick the Stacker.

But for the sake of good cooling Not for the noise level though. There, the Antec will win This, as the Antec fans are 3 speed regulated. For the Stacker, I probably would seal the side meshes with some clear plastic. And also seal all unessisary vents and holes to improve air pressue. But there are plenty of options for experimenting here.

Then, I would install a Aerocool Turbine, 120mm fan in the top hole for exhaust and one blowing over the hdds.

And if I did feel the need for chilling the mobo? I would get the Cooler Master Crossblower fan that will cool any component on the mobo well. But be warned, it's quite noisy at the mid and high setting.

Here is a review of the Stacker case:

http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/ca...er/cases/st830/

BUT! if I would recommend you a silent case with very good airflow. This is my choise. The new "Gun metal finish" Antec P182

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16811129025

You can mod it to have an extra intake, by removing, 3 of the 4 X 5.25 cd bays and install a Scythe Kama bay fan there for ex. Or just a washable, 120mm fan filter for a passive intake. No other intake fans ( if any?) is needed.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16835185020

But I would certainly replace the Antec Tricool fans for Noctua 1200RPM fans. Or alternative, Nexus or the Aeroccol Turbine 120mm / 37 CFM fans.

As you have a effective psu. You could remove the middle fan, down in the hd / psu tunnel. Then seal of the vents around the psu. The psu is sufficient enough for drawing air over the hdd's. At least as long as you just use 1 or 2 hdds down there.

Maybe even cut out the stamped fan gilles to improve noise and airflow further.

The only downside with this case. (The same goes for the P180). Is that it will take some time to find out the best way to route the cables neatly. This, as the case have a pretty special layout.

mm thxs... alot.. like i want to build another pc.. its fun.. but idk..i like mine but i would like to have a dual core... mayb i will just get a the stacker case and a dual core amd.. to replace my case and cpu.. sign what should i do....

Why not just get the Stacker and transfer the stuff you alleady have?....And then get a X2.

You cant find a better AMD s. 939 mobo than you allready have anyway.

Or if you think you can find the funds for it?

Get the Stacker + a Gigabyte DS 4 mobo and a E 6400 Cpu and some nice DDR II RAM. This will be a lot faster than anything AMD have for the moment.

mm.. well i know i want a dual core amd, and i want that case.. my friend is thinking of buying my pc.. if so.. i will build a new one.. if not then i will replace the case and cpu..

Posted by: goranpaa

O.k. If you build a new one? It would almost be better to build an AM2 rig then. This, as you still can find a couple of good AM2 Epox mobos. I guess you wanna hang on to that brand?
