Bulding a cheap Vista and DX10 rig

I got bored today.

So I decided to see what cheap and good stuff there is out there to be able to build a decent Vista and dx10 gameing rig?

First, I pretended to have a max budget of 700 bucks....Maybe 750 then.

So this would of coarce rule out Intel Core 2Duo stuff at once.
And as i think AMD's attempt with DDR II (AM2) is'nt one of their brighter ideas. I of coarce aimed at the old, trusty socket 939. stuff.

The AMD, socket 939 slightly outdated. But still fast enough to hang in there. And makes use of the cheaper DDR RAM. Wich you can find a fast 2 gig kit for a good price.

So I came up with the following stuff:

As for the mobo / cpu combo:

The Asus A8N 32 SLI de luxe is a better board than the other Asus A8N mobos.

First, it's slightly faster. And it does'nt have that horrible chipset fan, that so many have had bad experienses with the other s. 939 Asus A8N boards. This heatpipe cooling for the chipset is effective. And above all silent!

Yeah, I know! Some of you maybe think that the X2 3800, is a pretty weak cpu.

But it have some strengths. First, it's dual core of coarce. Second. It's a pretty good overclocker. So 2.4 - 2.6GHz is realistic speeds with the Arctic cooling Freezer 64 I included in this rig. And you have a good mobo to support it. And then you have the nice price tag on top of all.

And at that speed, the X2 3800+ will have all the power you may need in most situations.

The rest of the stuff is'nt much to say about really. They are good stuff in their own right for the price.

The Leadtek 8600GT, is'nt any monster videocard. It's about as fast as a 7600GT. But should manage to play the DX10 games in an o.k. way, at decent quality settings and resoloutions. And you always have the possibility to oc the card some.

The CoolerMaster Centurion case will see to that the airflow is good. Providing you don't mess the airflow up with cable clutter.

The Enermax psu, is powerful enough to run a GF 8800GTS / GTX or a X1900 Radeon card without problems.

Well, this rig should'nt break the bank. And should keep you going for a while.

I ended up at 670 USD lol.
