Main Video Player...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi all.

I was playing Warcraft III campaigns and saw that when it tried to play the movie, it just sent me to the desktop. I searched for an answer and found that the Warcraft III videos can only be played (or at least be played) with DIVX.

Now, I just installed DIVX 5 and the same problem keeps occuring.

I assume the computer doesn't know that DIVX is my main video player now, so how do I tell my computer just that?

Regards
JHawks

Okay, just to make sure I got this... the game minimizes itself when it reaches a cutscene, correct?

And you looked this up, and people said you needed DivX for it? From what I remember of WC3, you should not need DivX at all to play cutscenes from the game. And if my memory serves me correctly, it has it's own built in system that plays the videos, and should not need any external media player (like the one provided by DivX). DivX is mostly just a decoder that just about every media player can use to play DivX encoded files.

I couldn't find anything on Google about your issue, but if you could link me to your source that stated you needed DivX, I might be able to find something more using that.

Anyways, the default handler for your .avi files shouldn't affect the game. But to change that there are a couple things you can do. One is to open the media player you want and to go into the options and you should find something about File Types or Association. Once there, make sure to check, highlight, or otherwise indicate that you want said media player to associate itself with .avi files.

The other method would be to open any Explorer window and click Tools->Folder Options, then click the File Types tab and find the AVI extension, then click the Change button, and navigate to the media player executable.

This is the forum I was reading:

http://www.thehelper.net/forums//showthread.php?t=25287

It's not an exact problem, but it relates in a way. The person who created the thread is able to play the video, but when it finishes, it sends him to desktop.

Hmm, if it should be able to play independently (which I thought since I got DIVX a year or so after Warcraft III, I wonder why mine won't work...
