anybody have this happen?

I leave my computer on all night. This morning when I came to use it the screen was dark.
I could faintly make out the Windows logo on the monitor screen. I rebooted and it started normally and, so far, it's working fine. This has happened once before.

Has anybody had this experience and is a precursor to something ominous?

Thanks,

Never ran into something like that before. The closest would be my screen dimming on my laptop, but I've never had it freeze on it.

Thanks FadedMaster,

Yeah, it's a strange one. It could be the monitor I suppose but I have no way of knowing for sure because it works perfectly once I reboot.

What type of monitor is it, CRT or TFT?

I've seen this before. Usually it's right when Windows XP boots. There will be a very faint outline of the xp logo and a progress bar underneath it you might not have been able to see. Sometimes it hangs for like 10 seconds in dimness before getting bright and finishing to boot. Other times it is just frozen in dimness and yet still other times it will continually reboot everytime you see the logo. Honestly, it's usually a new device driver that is not installed correctly (start in safe mode to remove), hard disk issue (might have to try a chkdsk /f from a command prompt) or Windows needs repair. Also be sure nothing is overheating and running hot.

Thanks, guys,

I don't know one kind of monitor from another so I can't tell you which kind it is.

Thanks anyway, and I will do a chkdsk and see if that finds any problems.

Thanks for your replies,

CRT - Big tube type monitor (heavy)

TFT - flat panel type (like in a laptop)... it's actually a type of LCD screen.

Thanks FadedMaster
