How to host game maker games?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Game maker multiplayer games dont seem to work on my comp. I will host the game, put the ip as my external IP and give it to my friends. But they cant play with me. I DMZ the computer and turned firewall off but nothing! I can host in all other major games (Warcraft III, Half-Life 2 deathmatch, Counter-strike etc.). I have a router.

Maybe check out the sysinternals suite and check for port conflicts with another program listening on the port you are using in game maker? Have you tried changing the port that the server program listens on to see if there's any change? DMZ should do the trick. Also make sure your router isn't using some sort of port forwarding or blocking certain ports by default.

This is if you have a linksys router if you dont have one the same rules may still apply.
If you have already done that i have no clue. Also, are you wireless? connected to the router or direct to modem?brnad of router?google the problem, maybe someone has the same. check the game maker forums and ask a tech person their. maybe you gave the wrong ip to your friends or you copied the port number wronf if you opened a port.

1. Open your internet browser.

2. Type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar (this is the most common)

3. A username and password box will appear for username leave it blank for password type in admin.

4. Once you are in go to the Applications and gaming section this should bring you to port range forward section automatically.

5. For the name put in Wc3 for the port start type in 6112 for the port end type in 6112 for tcp or udp click on tcp leave the last box that should like like 192.168.1.--- read the next section to figure out how to find the last 3 digits.

6. Click start on your taskbar and go to run.

7. Type cmd into the box and hit enter. A black box will appear.

8. Type ipconfig into the black box and hit enter. A list will appear find the 192.168.1.*** take your last 3 digits and plug them into the 3 digits in the port forwarding section.

9. Click save settings on your router.

10. Your antivirus/firewall package usually blocks ports as well so if you have any of the major brands norton / zonealarm / trendmicro just google there sites and go to the help section to learn how to open the ports for your individual firewall and apply the same port openings as you did to the router.

But i tried DMZ, didn't I tell and Shadysoldiers comment is kinda useless, i said i *CAN* host in other major games not that i couldn't. And im sure i gave my friends the correct external IP, but the question is, how to change what port game maker uses? By typing in the game ip address as "44.125.753.124:28123" with 28123 resembling the port. It's actually useless question because i DMZted the computer. Or must i use internal on that instead?

the point of changing the port even in a dmz would be to rule out possible conflicts with other programs running on your puter or an overly protective router.

But how to change the port then?

not familiar with game maker, should be an option somewhere!
