Mouse Settings Not Saved

I change my mouse settings to a higher sensitivity, as well as check the increase accuracy checkbox, but the changes only last until I log off. Every time I restart my computer, the settings for the mouse sensitivity reset to about medium and the accuracy box is unchecked. Can anyone think of a reason that this would be happening?

Also, I noticed that immediately after I log in, the settings are as I had previously set them, but after a few startup programs load, it goes back to default. I don't have any mouse software so I don't know why this would happen.

What mouse is this?

It's an old Dell optical mouse that came with some computer that my dad used to have. I've had it for as long as I can remember and I've never had this problem before.

Have you checked at Dell for a driver / software ? Or Driver Guide Toolkit?

No, but I shouldn't need software for such a simple mouse, or any mouse for that matter. I've never used anything but the generic Windows mouse drivers for this mouse before.

Maybe, the mouse settings in the control panel is corrupt in some way? Have you runned a registry cleaner / repair software?

Yea, I use Registry Mechanic.

Also, I previously had the Logitech mouse software installed because I was using a wireless Logitech mouse until I realized that the lag time because of the wireless was causing my gaming performance to suffer. I'm wondering if that software, although I uninstalled it, was not completely removed and is resetting the settings? I just don't know what to do about it.
