Burning playable video DVDs.

Ok, I'm burning DVDs for my girlfriend that should be playable on just about anything with DVD playback, so basically a normal DVD with menu, videos, etc. The problem I'm having is that the whole process takes so damn long. I use a Nero suite that came with my DVD/CD burner/reader and apparently burning 7 episodes of anime to a DVD in a playable format takes 2 hours and 20 minutes, and most of that time is taken when transcoding the file into a playable DVD format. Now I don't know too much about video encoding/decoding, but I remember hearing that low-to-mid range video cards are supposed to be the ones that specialize in that sort of thing.
I'm just wondering really why this process takes so damn long, especially since my new system is a lot better than my old (see specs) and the time to do the process hasn't changed much.

Check out your cpu usage when you are burning. Also, the video format you are transcoding makes a difference in time it takes. I noticed mpeg takes longer than divx/avi. You can try grabbing a codec package but I doubt it will make a difference. 2 and a half hours is about right for a full entire dvd transcode with your processor. I would burn it to an image first, then to dvd disc.
