anti virus programs

I've been using Avast Anti Virus and Spybot, but am considering switching to Spyware Doctor rather than Spybot. I see that they have anti-virus that goes along with it and I'm wondering if you'd recommend using it rather than Avast?

I'm also looking for a good affordable page flipping program. Any suggestions?
I have Vista.

Thanks,

jcchev

I'm almost positive you have to pay for Spyware Doctor, or at least for the full version.

Kaspersky anti virus is pretty good as well

What's wrong with Avast? Try AVG then.

Spyware Doc. does'nt have the best of reputation.

If you feel you need to get better antispyware? Use AVG antispyware free and Comodo BOClean ( also free) as a compliment to spybot. If you want a pay for antispy? Then, NoAdware is very good.

BOClean, can be said to be a kind of hybride between an antivirus and antispy program. It does'nt care for cookies. Just the heavy stuff like trojans, keyloggers and worms. BOClean, lurks in the background. But still have a small footprint.

It have saved my rig from getting infected a couple of times.

I used SpyWare Doctor for a couple of months but it was using a lot of resources and it really slowed my computer down, especially at startup. I use Avast Anti-Spyware, AdAware 2007, Spybot, and SUPERAntiSpyware Free edition. They are all excellent and they're free. I always run at least two of them twice or three times a week. If you haven't tried SUPERAntiSpyware it's well-worth downloading and trying out. It finds malware that the others miss and vice versa.

What I do is I use an old pc (Pentium 3 or so) for testing software im not sure about and if I like it then I will use on main pc.
Maybe that works for you.
You might want to check freewarehome.com they have a lot of free anti virus software there.

I've been having some malware and virus problems that my Avast, Spybot, and AdAware weren't finding. I downloaded a free version of Spyware Doctor and it found all of them, about sixty infections from about twelve different Trogans and downloaders, etc. It's the best malware/spyware program I've come across and you don't have to pay for it. If you Google the free Google software pack and download it you only have to download the programs you check. In my case I only checked Spyware Doctor.

It's true that it uses a lot of resources if you leave it enabled but I just shut it down and enable it when I have a malware problem.

Try it, I'm sure you'll be satisfied.

I read a few comparison and from what i understand, AVIRA is supposed to be the best of the Free antivirus programs. So i have been using that and it has caught some of the stuff AVG has let slip bye, but those are the only 2 free ones i have used, so YMMV. If you want I can dig up the links.
