Upgrades

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey again every1. i have a HP DV9500T notebook. its pretty godly imo. here's the specs:

Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
17.0" Display
2 gigs of ram
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection
240 gig HD space

so im thinking about doing some upgrades
i have a Dlink DIR 655 router
http://www.dlinkshop.com/product.asp?sku=3274329
i kno my notebook has the wirless N, but i was thinking of getting a:
http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=550
(i work at BB and i can get that for 58 bucks) is that much, or an upgrade at all? i just think it might keep things going faster if they are all the same brand.

and i was also thinking about upgrading the ram, which i have 2 gigs now, if i was to get 4 gigs of ram (2x2gigs) would that increase gaming at all? cause i hear it usually only helps with a 64 bit system. i kno it'd increase things a bit, but i wonder how much.

thanks in advance!

Hi Preach!

Well, 4 gig of RAM will definite improve things, as Vista eats RAM. Especially when you play games.

Yeah, it's very sad, that most of the older members have gone. We are at the best 5 or 6 members still hanging in here on a regular basis.

Sorry I'm not able to help you with the router. But I'm kinda noobish, when it comes to networking stuff. But thought I should at least try to help you with the RAM question.

oh yea.. your very helpful. and i feel bad cause i really am only on here when i need help myself. tis a shame.

I'm one of them!

I've been getting the crash course on networking for a minute now.. Some reports blame draft N on router interruptions/reset situations especially with one of linksys's new products. As far as getting an N card for a laptop that has N built in. That's like retrofitting a house for a hurricane that's coming in 10 years when you could do it in 8 years with better materials on the cheap. In other words, I would advise letting N become standard before giving up that pcmcia slot and having to carry around a laptop with an appendage sticking out of the side.

i was one who purchased wireless N when it first came out.....i own the linksys wmp300n and the wrt300n.. The pros on it is that your get 270 Mbps on wireless...The con i have with it is that the drivers it came with suck, about every 30 mins it drops you. So i got pissed and just connected through windows. ever since then i had no problems and it is fast for wireless. its kinda pricey also

sry i didn't post my reply earlier...doubt it helped..ive been really busy with school...they pushing 2 much work on me
