New video card soon!

Hello guys. My 7300 LE is keeping up with the things i throw at it. The only down side to it is the turbo cache. I'm thinking of purchasing a new video card.
Here are my choices:
2600 XT
8600 GT
X1950 Pro
As Goranpaa said in the past my psu would not give it enough amps.
I've read some of the reviews and some guy said he had a 375 watt psu and the card runs fine. I don't know if that is safe..It's better idea not to take these types of risks.
Also my computer locks up sometimes. I'm not 100% sure what the problem is. When i'm on ventrilo I tend to speak with my friends and click other things like browsing etc. When i'm holding down my Mouse 4 button (binded key) my computer locks up but not all the time. Once in a while this would occur. When i check my hard drive its no longer buffering. So I then have to restart my computer. Could it be to much audio coming in and out?
Thanks, Peter

Personally I would rather get the GeForce 7600GT than the 8600GT because, in terms of performance, the two are nearly identical and sometimes the 7600GT is even faster, but the 7600GT costs less (I think it's around $90 - $100 by now) and doesn't require a 6-pin PCI-E cable (meaning it only needs 75W or less) and it should perform circles around your current card.

I'm not 100% sure if it will run on your psu but i would pay the extra fir the

but
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814130318
is good because you will see the difference in gaming in higher resolutions
again for like 30$ more u can go the gts
i know this is way out of your budget but it is such a great deal!!!!!+425 watts in the minimum

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
but if you cant run those or don't wanna pay that much
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814130311
is pretty nice
this is a 512 series of the gt
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814130290
and
this good but i would spend the extra for a 8800gt
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814130286
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
pci express 2.0 works in pci -e 1 also
hmm i wouldn't go the 7series because later int he future you will need an upgrade judging on the technology today, like if their is a dx10 game that you really want to play.
Also , their are rumors about the 9 series coming out in February which will bring down the price of the lower cards.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
for the lock ups maybe your psu isn't giving you a good enough power feed
have you checked for virus,etc?
over heating?
programs that take too many resources, EX: like Norton
if it is ur psu...then you can may be talk to the manufacture for an rma or w/e
and if they don't care and you need another...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16817341010
i also think their is a promo you can ask for that you save 10$ and get free shipping
sorry for the spelling errors I'm virtually blind and cant read the type on the screen and don't have time to spell check + its 5 am and i have a lot of hw.
but don't take my word till goranpaa come and concurs
if he does

Hi!
The 8600 cards are'nt worth the cost. Crippled memory. Just 256mb - 128mbit. Will work o.k. in DX 9.0.
But in DX 10 they will run at like 1280 x 1024 and medium settings. Especially in the Crysis game, you will have to run moderate settings with a 8600. And the 8600GTS, is about as fast as a 7900GS ( in some games, the 7900GS will beat the 8600GTS). So it's a waste of money.
Then it's better to get a 7600GT instead if you want a cheap but decent card.
Or the X1950 Pro of coarce:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814131056
But on the other hand the Radeon HD 3850. Is the best bang for buck dx 10 card of today.
And can really be worth the extra 50 bucks, over the cost of a X1950Pro.
If you run low resoloutions (up to 1280 x 1024 or 900 x 1400 widescreen?) Then you can get away with a 256mb HD 3850.
Othervice, a 512 mb is recomended.

The only "but" for the X1950Pro. Is that DX 9.0 cards is a dying breed. And that the HD 3850 is way faster for just a slightly higher cost. The HD 3850, is about as fast as the GF 8800GTS 320 and 640 mb. Where the cheapest 8800GTS 320mb costs 220$.
The 8800GT is very nice. But your cpu will bottleneck it slightly. You need like a AMD X2 5000+ or up
to run the 8800GT without a bottleneck. Preferably a Intel Core 2 Duo cpu. Geforce cards are more cpu dependant than the Radeons. But on the other hand, as you have a AC Freezer. You always have the option to overclock the 4400+ cpu some 400Mhz.
If you wanna go for a X1950 Pro, or a HD 3850? You need minimum 450W and 30A on the +12V rail(s) And as the price difference between a 450W and 500W is just a few bucks. Go for the 500W.
It will be resonably future proof.
This psu, is decently priced and of good quality:

The risks with running a under powered psu. Is that your motherboard and other hardware will heat up ( shorter life span). possible system instability. And even, if that guy did seem to run his card well with an underpowered psu. His psu will degenerate a lot faster. And one day, it is'nt able to shell out the rated watts and amps any more. Also the risk of that the psu may blow, and take the mobo for ex. down with it into the bin must be taken into account.
I'm not sure why your pc locks up in Ventrilo. But maybe someone else here have a good ansver to this?

256 MB is enough for me. I only play pc games 8x6 or 640x480. I rarely play on 1024x768.
A new PSU will do. I'm pretty sure that I have no virues on my comp and I dont use that horrible program called Norton. My comp temps. are pretty low. How about the 2600xt should I look into that?

If you compair the 8600GTS to the HD 2600XT in game benchmarks. The 8600GTS wins. But the 7900GS beats them both. And the X1950Pro in it's turn beats the 7900GS. So I definite would go for the X1950Pro. The Powercolour X1950 Pro I linked you to cost the same as the good HD 2600XT brands. And the HD 2600XT is about as low performing in DX 10 a games as the 8600 cards btw. Both the GF 8600 cards and the HD 2600's are crippled by the 256mb - 128megabit memory. The X1950Pro have full 256mb - 256megabit. memory btw.
The HD 3850, is the cheapest, good DX10 compatible card to get if you wanna game in DX10 in a good way.
The X1950Pro, plays even with GF 7950GT. But the X1950Pro have slightly better image quality.

A mouse binded key... mmm... Did you update your mouse drivers to latest on manufacfturer site? next time it locks up see if you can get some info from cntrl+alt+del like processor usage/memory usage/the application that hangs not responding. That sort of thing. Wouldn't hurt to try windows updates and clean out your add/remove programs either.

Thanks for the replies. When I ever decide to purchase a new psu and Maybe a new ATI card I'll post again. But for now I'm enjoying my ps3 and call of duty 4. When that time comes there will be 5840 models coming out. lol
As for my computer locking up I could not find the conflict. It's not a major conflict atm.

hmm ps3 some times i wish i bought one, the deal was ps3+2 ctrlers+3 games for 400$ on black Friday.
Sadly i got the xbox 360 that SUCKS, for 230$. it lasted a good 2 months be fore re ring, about 50% of xboxs get red ring 2????....and you cant just send it to them in your own box you have to wait for their box. When thats over your xbox live subscription is over. The worst thing is it cost a good 150 for repair for their mistake when your warranty runs out.
