I'm reworking my system (as in, overclocking and such) and my first order of business was to get my memory back at DDR2-800 (I decided the 1T command rate is worth losing) and then loosen the timings as best I can, while also keeping my CPU at 2.4 GHz. So far I've managed to keep my CPU at 2.4 GHz by having the bus speed at 240 MHz w/ a x10 multiplier. As a result, the total bus speed is 960 MHz and my RAM runs at 400 MHz (800 after DDR). So, for a summary, here's how the config is.
CPU - 240 x 10 = 2.4 GHz
HT - 240 x 4 = 960 MHz
RAM - 2.4 GHz/6 = 400 MHz x 2 = 800 MHz
Now before I had a similar setup that also worked, which was as follows
CPU - 266 x 9 = ~2.4 GHz
HT - 266 x 4 = 1.06 GHz
RAM - 2.4 GHz/6 = 400 MHz x 2 = 800 MHz
The only difference between this setup and the last is the HT bus speed and the multiplier on the CPU. Now I'm wondering, does the faster bus speed with lower multiplier(s) have any impact on total performance (positive or negative)? And if there is no real difference in performance, what about temperatures?
On a side note, assuming it's safe and possible for my board, I wanted to try and take the CPU even higher while still preserving the same HT and RAM speeds (haven't quite figured out how yet though).

BUS speed is very important. Just like cache. Higher bus + lower multiplier at same cpu speed is better.
