Digital Audio and Surround Sound

So as some of you may be aware, I now have a home theater system. I have my computer hooked up with a digital coax. the problem I have is that my games are supposed to be in discrete surround sound. The issue is that my receiver is not getting a discrete sound from my computer. It's just doing Pro Logic II. I did get VLC to work with Dolby Digital though. It was extremely choppy though. So I'm guessing I'll need an independent sound card.

However, I was hoping there was something I could do to get it to be sent out to my receiver as Dolby Digital. Surround Sound worked fine when I went through the separate analog outputs for speakers. Now it doesn't with the digital. So I'm guessing I need some software/hardware that would send the signal out in Dolby Digital.

For the home theater setup you spec'ed. I would invest in a good independant sound card anyways. I have noticed increased sound quality from $10 sound cards vs motherboard integrated ones. Also.... Did you read the manual?

Haha, I don't need to read the manual. At least not for any of the home theater stuff. After all, I am a Home Theater Pro at Best Buy. Haha. Really though, I know the receiver is set up correctly. The Yamaha receivers actually switch automatically based on the signal. So if I'm not getting a digital signal, it will automatically use Pro Logic II.

Anyways, if I play a DVD in my computer, it will pass the digital signal on through to the receiver and it will be decoded. What I have to do is either stop my computer from decoding digital signals on it's end or get it to re-encode the sound back to a digital signal to be sent to the receiver. Or, and I don't really want to do this, use the multi-channel input on the receiver combined with 1/8" to stereo RCA cables.

I plan to invest in a decent sound card at some point, but I was hoping to find a solution for now. I just spent a good chunk of change on this system, so I'm a little broke for the time. haha
