I'm getting a laptop as a gift and I need to know a few things.

First of all, my most important concerns with the new laptop I'll be picking out are battery life, heat and weight (all closely related I'm sure). Pure power (as in, graphics) comes a close second and really I'll only need it for World of Warcraft and some other semi-old games.

Here's some things I was thinking about...

- The new laptop should be semi-light. Under 8 lbs is good, under 6 is best.
- I've been looking around major vendors for them selling notebooks with the new Penryn series processors in them, but haven't found any. Does anyone know if they're being sold yet and if so, who's selling them? If not, when will it be available?
- I want mid-range graphics with the new laptop, something like a GeForce 8600 or ATI HD 2600. However, I have also considered that with the new GeForce 9 and ATI 3000 series cards coming that those will be put into mobile form also. How long until that happens?
- If battery life could be estimated just by looking at the specs then it'd be nice if the laptop lasted at least 3 hours on a full charge.

So, any suggestions or answers you can give me would be great.

Hi!

I guess it will take some time before you see any lappy with a Penryn. Same things for the Geforce series 9 card.

This may be something to your liking?

But get another gig of RAM as this lappy comes with Vista. And maybe a more powerful battery? All the "gaming laptops" have short battery life.

All of the more powerful lappy's runs hot. Suggest you get this lappy cooler pad:
