can't click?

I have Windows Vista and recently I let my roommate use my computer in a wireless area. She came back and I couldn't connect with my LAN wire. I brought it to the tech support on my campus and they said that they couldn't get around it and were unable to get a connection and recommended that I reformat. I haven't reformatted yet. I don't want to reformat if I don't have to. I found the Network and Sharing Center and saw that the Network Discovery was off. I tried clicking on the little arrow to try to turn it on, but I can't click on ANYTHING. I can't click on the things on the side that can direct you elsewhere (Tasks, View Computers and Devices, Connect to a Network, etc). Can anyone help?

Also, the lights for the LAN wire don't go on, nor does it connect to the internet when I'm at school. Here at home when I hook up my computer to the modem we have, they go on and I have internet.

Hi!

As you say you can't connect to the net in any way? Maybe the network card driver is corrupt? Try reinstalling that driver.

Also try running a registry cleaner, as it happends now and then that the Windows registry gets messed up, with all kinds of strange behaviour as a result. Maybe you can get one downloaded from a friends computer?

Also run your anti virus as a safety precausion.

I just hooked my computer back up here at school and it's working fine. I have no idea why it wouldn't work before.

Thanks, though. I'll keep it in mind if/when it happens again!
