I'm thinking of putting together a new computer starting with a Pentium 4 motherboard with dual processers. Will someone please suggest what kind of Power Supply I should use and also a really good quality graphics card.

Thanks in advance,

Hi!

Well, what videocard, depends on the speed of the cpu's?

But I think a Radeon card would be the best choise, as they are'nt as cpu dependant as the fastest GF cards.

As for psu:

EDIT:

As you say the mobo is P4? Then I belive it's also agp?

If that's true? Then a Radeon X1950Pro agp is the best choise if you wanna have the fastest, good agp card..

Thanks goranpaa,

I'll look into it.

You're welcome man.

No offense, but I hope you aren't intending to make a Pentium 4 based computer. I mean, unless you can make it for cheap (and I mean REALLY cheap), then it isn't worth your time or money to make something like that. A Pentium 4 is a power hog and the equivalent of a space heater. Also, AGP mobos are slowly dying out as well since the AGP slot is almost dead as well and everyone is using PCI-E.

Honestly, you could build a PC better than the one in my specs for around $500 if you know where to look. Unless you're REALLY on a tight budget, Pentium 4 and AGP is not the way to go. I mean, heck, even $200 - $300 can probably get you an on-par system to mine (and therefore far better than a P4-based system).

He is very correct my friend.....look at my specs in my Signature....It runs most everything fine (games), but new generation I'm back to Low Settings and even bumping down Resolution

Don't go near anything still utilizing AGP....like previous post mentioned, even a cheaper MOBO which supports PCI-E is the way to go..

Cheers

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input. I've also considered AMD motherboards. Any opinions on them?

The one Pentium I was considering was a Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600
(2.40GHz, 4x2MB, 1066MHz FSB, LGA775 Socket T - MPN: BX80562Q6600)

Trouble is I don't know enough about them which is why I'm asking for advice.

Thanks,

So what you meant with "P4 dual processor", whas a Core 2 Duo cpu?

Well, that's a completly different matter!

Then I belive you are better off with this cpu, than the Quad 6600 and mobo.

You wont find many games supporting multitreading and especially Quad cores.

The game manufacturers have enough fun playing around with DX 10, to pay much attention to quad stuff for the moment. And by the time they do. I belive the Q6600 is absolete anyway.

CPU:

You have the new Wolfdale cpu's but it's a pain to find a good mobo for those for the moment. And the cpu I suggested is easily overclocked to 3.0 GHz anyway. Though I hardly belive you will feel the need for quite some time.

Mobo:

RAM

Video card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814129100

The HD 3870, sits between the GF 8800GTS 640mb and the 8800GT performance vice.

If you find this card too expensive? Then this is good option too. About as fast as the GForce 8800GTS 320 and 640mb :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16814161215

The HD 3850, is the best bang for buck DX10 ready midrange card you can find right now.

But if you really want a Geforce? Then the 8800GT is the best choise.

But be aware of, that there are an AntiAlising bug in the drivers, supporting the GT and the new 8800 GTS 512mb for the moment. Making the AA work more or less good.

Need a new case too?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16811119106

Just move the side , intake fan to the front mount instead for best cooling.

Like a case with window?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16811146028

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16811146025

Additional front intake fan:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16835129243

Just remove the pointy nose for front , intake mounting.

Total of 702 bucks with the NZXT case and the MSI 8800GT + the Aerocool Turbine fan.

This rig will dance circles around any AMD based rig you can think of.

I picked out a full rig, as I dont know how much you may wanna upgrade?
And I assumed you will use the hdd(s) you already have?

And I tried to find the best bang for buck stuff out there. Maybe not the fastest stuff around. But easily fast enough to play any games you want, at high settings.

If you are going Vista? Then add another 2 gig RAM kit to the list.

You went to a lot of trouble. I appreciate it. I'll carefully consider everything and see what fits my budget,
