My Docs on external drive

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi. I've just got a new lappy and I'm just setting it up how I like it. It's got 120GB HDD, but this isn't large enough for all my files, so I've got an 250GB external HDD, on to which I'm going to be storing things like photos and music.

Now I know that I'm able to move the location of various 'my documents' folders to diffrent locations, just by right-clicking the folder -> properties -> location -> move..... but as I'm looking to move the folders onto an external drive - what happens when the drive is not plugged in?

For the most part, my machine is going to stay at home and sit on my desk, but from time to time I'll be taking it into uni, so I want to know that it's not going to throw any hissy-fits if the my docs folders are not available.

Thank you

what do you mean "not plugged in"

If you have a shortcut for the folder on the external that isn't their it just wont run and say the file can not be found. It just wont let you access the files on the external if it is not on. It wont blow up or anything if it is not their, but if you have windows or window files on your external and your external is off it load the OS.

When he said not plugged in he meant the external hdd not plugged in lol. Like if he brought it to work with out his external.

put all your apps on your external and all your "fun" stuff on the external.
