monitors

I need to replace my emachines T3828 due to an impending mother board problem. I looked at an emachine W3622 as well as some acer products. Number one, I was told, and don't know if this is correct, I can use my present monitor in whatever I purchase. Also, does anyone know if acer comes with restore discs. I bought an emachine 3 years ago because I wanted these so I could do a restore myself. I got the impression from the sales person that a monitor does not use a driver, just a signal. Thank you.

Hi!

To be really honest with you. Stay away from E Machines and Acer prebuildt pc's. Those are considered pretty low quality rigs.

You can bild a good rig yourself, for about 700 to 1000$. We, here at the forum can help you out with picking the good stuff + building guide. A novice builder, can put a pc together in about 3 hours taking it easy. And if you build it yourself. You can easily upgrade hardware yourself later on.

I't a lot easier than you think, and you get better hardware than with a prebuildt for the same price.

What max budget do you have for a new pc?

Do you play games a lot?

Also, get a real Windows cd. You can't do a repair installation with a restore disc for ex.

You can use your monitor for any pc.

I strongly agree with goranpaa.
He guided me in building my first PC. Now time has pasted by its fairly easy and fun. The Fun part is finally putting everything together and then hoping for it to power on. In my experience trying to connect the jumpers which is the power button is difficult.

I've built a few rigs myself, and have had Goranpaa help me pick some hardware out too. He always has great suggestions.

As far as I'm aware, Dell and Toshiba are the only companies that include restore CDs and everyone else just uses the separate partition. Since you've been looking at Acers and eMachines, I'm assuming you're on a tight budget. If you are, then you are probably better off buying a pre-built. The only downfall with the pre-built machines is all the software that the companies throw on there (especially acer and eMachine).

If you can save a little more or use some no interest financing options, you might want to look into getting a better brand like HP or a Gateway. It really depends though, as most people have different opinions on brands. Consumer Reports rates Dell the highest, but on the next page also lists them as the most serviced computer. I've read that they've improved their hardware recently, and is why more stores have begun carrying their stuff. However, I'd personally stay clear of Dell.

Go for the purchase of Parts yourself (Cx this Forum for advice picking out Components). You can pretty much pick Components at various levels of your Budget and save $$$ by avoiding pre-built Systems.

Check out my Rig....signature below.....all Components purchased through Direct Canada.Com
All Components delivered to my door within 72 Hrs of Online Purchase.
Total Cost was $1950, this is included $60 labor for a fellow to Build and install OS.

I can guarantee that this System is much faster than any Pre-Built "in store" System and I can also guarantee, that the cost of this Rig "pre-built" within a store would likely run around $2500.......thats Canadian $$$....hey...that would equate to about US$2500..right on!!

This Forum has been excellent for all advice and most definitely seek it here!

Cheers

Absolutely true, but look at the computers this person was interested in. The eMachine is running only a Celeron 420, 512MB RAM, and 80GB HDD. Unless you're going high end, or eBaying parts, you're not going to be able to build a computer for under $400 (which is probably where this retails around... closer to $350 I would guess) and get a legit install of Windows XP.
