Hey I was thinking of oc'ing my CPU and my video card. That's a maybe, as you can see I have an epox mobo but im not positive on how to oc in bios. If anybody could help me I would appreciate it.

Hi!

As for oc'ing the cpu.

You need following tools:

Epox Thunder probe software. Should have come on your mobo cd. Or download it at Epox home. This for monitoring the cpu temp. Keep a close eye at the temps while trying to find out the best oc. Especially while running Prime 95.

Memtest, for testing RAM stability.

Prime 95, Torture test for testing cpu and system stability.

Cpu Z for checking out motherboard fsb and speeds after oc'ing.

And patience, + some sandwiches and coffee maybe?

Oc'ng the cpu.

First, make sure "Cool n' quiet" are disabled.

Then lower the RAM speed one notch from PC 3200 to PC 2700 for ex. This, cuz the RAM will be overclocked at the same time as the cpu. And your RAM, can't probably handle running at the stock speed when you start overclocking.

Now, locate the FSB menue. Raise the fsb in small increments at the time. With testing stability with memtest for 2 full cycles = 200%. And Prime 95 at the tuffest setting for 1 1/2 hour in between the oc attempts.

When you reach a 400MHz oc. You have the RAM back at stock speeds

And if you go over a 400MHz oc? Then, you probably have to either lover the RAM again and / or, loosen up the RAM timings. Especially the CAS# is sensitive to oc.

Also, you may have to set the multiplier to a lower setting at high oc'ing. If you have 10X multi? Then try 9X for example. This, as you wanna have the mobo fsb pretty close to the stock fsb.

To find out wich fsb you should set in bios? Take out a calculator. And multiply the multiplier with the fsb.

Example:

9X multi x 335 fsb = 3015 MHz

If you find that you, at some point cant boot properly? Just pull the mobo battery for some minutes and the bios is back at default.

You may also, have to raise the CPU / RAM Voltage eventually. But be very careful! Save this option to the point when nothing else helps.

A good cpu temp when running Prime / overclocking, is around 40 to 50C. But never let the cpu temp go over 65C!

65C is AMD cpu's danger treshold.

Prime 95, heats up the cpu more than any normal computing. You can count on about 3-5C lower temp when not running Prime.

Overclocking your video card.

Tools:

Riva Tuner for setting the oc.

ATITools for testing stability, via the sc. "artifact test".

GPU Z for compairing oc results.

Same thing here. Do the raising of the gpu and memory speeds in small increments. And then test in between with the ATITool artifact test for an hour. When you start to get glimmering dots in the test picture = artifacts?

Lower the gpu and memory slightly and test again. No artifacts this time? Then you have reached the max oc for your card.

Those Epox, AMD socket 939 mobo's are good overclockers by the way.

Dont forget the Epox Thunder Probe monitor software now!
