I want one, just because i love GPUs but My card already runs all the games I want. If you have an 8800 I would stick with it.

Yeah, And 2 X 9600GT's in SLI is probably more interesting. And noticeable cheaper. One single 9600GT is'nt that far from a 8800GT performance vice actuallly.

Yep, I was thinking of taking advantage of Evga's Step-up Program, sending in my 8800 GTX for a 9800 GX2, but considering the overall size and capabilities, decided to wait abd see the specs on the 9800 GTX.
Now, I've decided "no Step-up" for me!! Compared to my 8800 GTX, the 9800 GTX isn't impressive at all.
Firstly, I already have my 8800 GTX OC'd to :
Core - 625 Mhz - Stock 526
Memory - 2.044 Ghz (combined) - Stock 1.8
Shaders - 1.504 Ghz - Stock 1350

If I jack up the Fan Speed from 59% (default) to 75%, my GPU @ idle sits around 52 degrees and up to 69 degrees at Full Load.

On the down side it was a pricey Card - $480 (with Crysis), but it is a "single card", therefor no hassles setting up SLI and no additional heat (extra GPU pumping out more heat).
Apparantly the 9800 GX2 runs quite warm and doesn't properly exhaust the heat outside the Case!

Now, when looking at the 9800 GTX vs 8800 GTX, a couple of things I looked at were:
1. Total Memory - dropped from 768 MB to 512 MB - Con
2. Lower Bandwidth (8800GTX is still faster), despite the PCI-E 2.0 Format - Con
3. No improvement to Memory Type, as in GDDR 3 vs GDDR 4 - Con

Before I sound to bias, a couple of "Pros" are the price and of course the size. However, if someone already owns either an 8800 GTX or 8800 Ultra, I personally don't see the point in "upgrading" to this Card. With that said, if one is looking to upgrade an old, slow GPU, ( 6 or 7 Series), then yes, by all means perhaps a 9800 GT / GTX in SLI would be the way to go (if you favor Nvidia vs ATI)!

I'm somewhat disappointed that Nvidia has skipped a 9800 Ultra in favour of the 9800 GX2. Perhaps I would have considered this Upgrade.
we'll have to wait n see whats up Nvidias sleeve come the Fall, as the Step-up Program has been extended from 90 Days to 120 Days!!

Overall, the cost of the 8800 GTX has indeed been worth the performance. It has far exceeded my expectations!

Cheers

Totally agree!

For you to go a 9800 card of any flavour, would be a waste of money.

I exspect the 8800GTX to be one of the more long lived cards for quite some time.

Together with the 8800GT and the 9600GT. And the Radeon HD 3870 512mb.

I guess one reason why Nvidia skipped the Ultra. Is that they wanted to take up the competition with the Radeon HD 3870 X2.

Nvidia's last attempt to make a "sandwich video card", the 7950 GX2 did'nt fall out very well. Quite many problems with this card.

But probably, the 9800 GX2 will be a much better one.
