New Zalman 9700 LED (Blue)

Hey folks,
Just had my new Zalman installed and I'm a little confused as to the Temps I'm now reading....
With my Stock HSF, running Prime 95 version 25.6 Small FFT:
Processor - approx 53 degrees
Core 1 approx 61c - 68 degrees
Core 2 approx 58c - 63c
My idle Temps for both Cores was 42c and CPU 36
With my Zalman, idle Temps for both Cores still shows 42c, however CPU shows 30c
Under load running Prime95 version 25.5 Small FFT and OC to 3,4Ghz, vCore 1.225
Processor - approx 46c
Core0 48c
core1 43 - 44c
Am I running Prime95 properly? Is it testing both Cores? I am simply opening it, and selecting Torture Test from the Menu, then selecting Small FTT...
I tried the other Stress Program, OCCTPT and when I ran it, it only showed one Core being tested, is thier a way to test both Cores?
Perhaps this Zalman is doing the job?!
Also, in HWMonitor, with Prime 95 running I get:
CPU VCore 1.18v
CPUTIN 46c
Core 0 48c Max 49c
Core1 43c Max 45c
I'm presently running my Zalman at about 1/4 Speed (thats 1/4 relative to Max)
Seems odd to me that their is a drop of almost 10c in the CPU Temp at idle, but the Cores still show 42c at idle?
Any comments would be much appreciated!
Thanks
PS Canucks suck.....Vancouver that is, I can't believe they've given up!

hmmm, ill get back to you after my hw but open your case and see if the fan is spinning, because on mine it wouldn't spin if it was pluged into the 4pin on the mobo

Yep, fan is spinning nicely!! The rheostat -like control for adjusting speed is a nice touch as well!!
Actually I think I've got it all sorted out here. Playin around this evening OC'ing monitoring temps etc!
So Far:
got the Zalman installed, OC'd to 3.6 Ghz!
- vCore 2.750 (for now, may go bewteen that and 2.500 tomorrow)
- FSB 1600 Mhz Multiplier 9x
-Memory (Unlinked) 2GB 4-4-4-12 1T @2.1v
Evga 8800GTX (a little OC Fan @ 75%)
- Core 625Mhz
-Memory 2.044 Ghz
-Shaders 1.504 Ghz
Temperatures: 51c Idle 67 - 69c Load
Ran Prime95 version 25.6 Small FTT for 3 hrs, no errors.
Load temps:
Core 1 48c
Core 2 51c
Amazing, my Load temps yesterday with Stock HSF @ 3.4 Ghz were 63 - 67c, what a drop!
Even managed a 13.5k on 3DMark 06

Very nice!
But maybe you should stop your oc exsperiments there. You will have good use for the nice cooling, the Zalman provides when the hot summer months kicks in. 3.6 GHz is a very nice oc.
Now, your rig must really fly in the games I'll guess!

You know something Goranpa...and to be perfectly honest with you.....I only got inot this OC stuff since checking out that other Forum (the Canucks one), as thats what they all seem to be into! BTW, its not just for Canucks, think their are some folks on thier from south of the Border as well.
Anyhow, I don't really see a huge difference in Gaming from 3.0 Ghz to 3.6 Ghz. I believe this OC'ng of CPU is more geared towards "seeing what she'll do", Higher Benchmarks in #D etc, and of course bragging rights.
truth is, I paid some pretty good coin for this System (around 2k with the Zalman) and I really don't want it to go "fizzle".....
I have been told and seen (on the other Forum), folks are getting up to 4.2 Ghz out of the E8400, but I have definitely halted at 3.6 and may even go back to 3.4 or 3.2.
More or less wanted to see if I could do it!
Plus, I'm driving my wife nuts!!

I see.
Well, if you go back to 3.4 GHz you wont notice much of a performance loss really. Cuz you will have to make 400MHz jumps at the time to notice any real performance boosts. A 200 MHz jump is just a minor performace gain really. And if you run 3.4 GHz your cpu will run cooler too. Just as the chipset will.
But I understand your interest in seeing how far you can push the cpu within resonable temperature limits. I have been there a couple of times myself lol.
And be kind to your wife!

I'm curious, not sure of your "expertise" with OC'ing, but.....
I can run this Rig stable everything good at an OC of 3.4Ghz, vCore at 1.225v
Timings 4-4-4-12 1T
When I go to 3.6Ghz, I have to bump my vCore up to 1.275v, I was trying 1.250 and even 1.2625v, everything would Boot up into Windows fine, but would get "Prime95 has to shut down error" or Prime95, after running for about 1 hr, would stop and show a "Hardware Failure error"....
Of course when I bump the vCore back up to 1.2750v all is well.
Basically, I'm trying to get OC 3.6 Ghz, with the lowest Voltage possible and I'm curious, do you think its possible that these "Errors" may be due more to the fact that I have my Memory Command Rate set to 1T ?
I was thinking of setting it back to 2T and trying the process of OC'ing to 3.6 again with the lower Voltages and see if I still get the error..
Your thoughts are always welcome!

It could be the 1T command rate. Or the simple fact that you have reached the point where the VCore needs to be that high for beeing able to run 3.6 GHz in a good way. Lower VCore seem to result in system instability when beeing under heavy load, Prime 95 for ex. The mobo's overclock ability, is also a factor to count into the equation.
The only advice I can give you really is to experiment further and see where it takes you?
Overclocking to high clocks sucessfully, is a combination of you beeing stubborn, experimenting a lot with testing in between. And the capability of the hardware in question. Oc'ng is'nt an exact "science" lol.
It could even be, that a certain bios version clocks better than the others.
You may even be forced to set the RAM timings to 4.5-4-4-12 or 5-4-4-12 or 16.

Just remember to reset bios to defaults before flashing the next one, if you go down that road that is? Or you may get into fat trouble. Flashing a new bios on a over clocked one is definite a no-no.

Gotcha....although I'm not really considering that at this point...
Cheers
PS Vancouver Canucks will definitely NOT be sipping out of Lord Stanley this June, they were officially bump out of Playoff contention yesterday by loosing (at home) to Edmonton.
Looks like lots of yardwork this next few months....damn!
