Due to my budget I bought an emachines W5243. Not my first choice, but... It came with Vista and I was wondering how do you find out if it is XP compatible. If it is I will buy it and install. I assume you do a wipeout/restore the just install. I'm pretty savvy but if I don't know, I ask. Thank you.

Not sure about "off the shelf" e-machines....try Googling it. Perhaps someone else on here with some "emachine" knowledge will provide you with the answer!

I'm going out on a limb here, but, I would imagine the specs for that emachine are obvioulsy high enough to run Vista, therefor I would imagine that you should be able to 'Reformat" the HDD no problem, but its whether or not the Emachine will allow you to boot from an XP Disc and install.....

Anyone?

As said, if your pc can run Vista? There should'nt be any problems running XP. XP, is after all less of a resource hog than Vista. And faster in DX 9.0 games. Especially if you install XP service pack 3.

I dont feel at all tempted to run Vista. And I really dont miss DX 10 either. Just look at "The Witcher screenie in dx 9.0 below. Is'nt that enough eye candy for you?

And I hate all those pop up screens, blue screens, yellow screens, green screens and all the other messeges in Vista lol.

Hm, I don't actually run into any weird screens in Vista. SP1 has been a nice performance increase on the system too. Plus you can always disable some of the fancy stuff with Vista.

If you already have a legit full-install copy of XP, then you should have no problem. But make sure you have something to restore back to Vista if you have any issues. I know some of the integrated hardware (sound and video specifically) have had issues going backwards. It's rare, but it does happen. I've run into customers who "hate" Vista (albeit without ever giving it a fair shot), who reformatted and went back to XP, only to be without sound and unable to find drivers, and without restore discs too.
