Well, just goes to show you nothing is really secure...
Windows XP is just new that is the only thing that it has against it. Obviously, if this happened in XP, then what's to say that it wasn't already there in windows 2000 or NT for that matter? This is just something new that was found. There's already a patch, so just go get it; problem solved.
Washington Post carries the AP story: Maiffret and his researchers demonstrated the flaws for The Associated Press by hacking into a reporter's laptop running Windows XP from 2,300 miles away and successfully instructing the computer to connect automatically several times to the Web site for the National Security Agency, the government's super-secret spy agency.. Windows everywhere? .. perhaps a little variety in operating systems is a good thing after all..

the following is an exerpt from the bbc news web site:
Now, the company is urging all Windows XP customers and those using previous versions of Windows, including Windows 98, 98 SE or ME, who have fitted the Universal Plug and Play service, to download a patch, available on the company's website, and install it immediately.

I don't like that WashTech article. It doesn't explain the hole, rather points and abuses Windows XP.
Anyways...Microsoft's brief is here. Affects all users of XP and those who have installed the Universal Plug In Play Service on 98, 98SE, or ME machines.
