Did you like the recent Lord of the Rings movie?

The time has come ... but this time we'll take a break from tech polls and do something unrelated (somewhat).
The first episode of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, titled Fellowship of the Ring, was finally unveiled this week. I am pretty sure that almost everyone will watch it (or have watched it already).
So this poll asks the obvious question - did you like the movie? Let us know what you liked (or did not like) about it - but be careful not to divulge any major spoilers (even though there are people who have read the books already).

Wheres the "Im not going to go see it" Option? That one applies to me.

Oh come on, you don't know what you could be missing! Even if you normally don't like Fantasy style movies, sometimes a movie out of what you normally like can be cool.
I watched a movie on Lifetime the other day and it was decent. I didn't think I could ever like anything on the bored housewife network..hehe
I usually don't like comedies either but Rush Hour 2 rocks!
Anyways I think you would like it. It looks nothing like the dull cartoon version they had out years ago.

It's the very last option, strange you didn't see it ... feel free to choose it

wheres the "i havent seen it yet" option?
Posted by: Canis Lupus
The poll applies only to those who have watched it (or don't want to watch it) ... hence the question

It was okay. I never read the books. The movie looked good, and I liked some of the visuals, but the overall filmography was weak IMO. Didn't like the fact that they put most of the movie through color filters. I hate that.
And also, why do all bad guys have to be slimy? WTF? That's the tiredest, oldest, badest film stereotype ever.
The balrog was uber cool, as were the ring wraiths. I also liked most of the characters that played a part in the fellowship.
As someone who never read the books, I'm coming from the perspective of someone seeing this story for the first time, but it was pretty weak overall. The visuals and the pacing were about the only thing that stopped the movie from sucking. I mean, the plot was about as transparent as you can get, and there were no surprises to be had at all.
Weak story, cool movie.

Weak Plot? Weak Plot? Tolkien's was the original plot from which all are derived. Slimy? You ain't seen slimy till you read the books. Put me on the Gonna See it Soonest list. Weak Plot? *stifles a Balrog's Flame Spell.

What, you think that before tolkien wrote LOTR 50 years ago people didn't know what plot was?
He didn't magically invent plot you know. And by any plot standards, LOTR is weak.

Fellowship of the Ring, you mean
Yeah, it is very possible that FOTR is weak by your plot standards

Jacki Chan saying, I'll *****slap you back to Africa! made that entire movie for me.

I guess I just like intelligent plots, and can't stand linear plots with zero twists or surprises.

LOTR is more of a saga than a novel; thus, it is exempt from the "must have a plot with twists and turns and surprises" rule.
Each episode within the saga has its own surprises and they all help to detail the chronicle.
This, of course, is only my humble opinion based on years of reading and a bachelor's degree in English.
And the movie effing rocked.

Im glad everyone had a good experience....I sat next to a loud nose breather I liked the movie a ton, it has inspired me to pick up the first book.

After thinking about it a bit, most of what I didn't like can probably be attributed to shitty production and direction.

I hate fantasy.
Posted by: Null Actor
Well, I have mixed feelings on fantasy.
I used to love it, and in essence, I still do. But I'm so damn burnt out on fantasy. Plus, few authors can actally match the might of the best fantasy that's out there.
I've been heaving in to Gibson-esque cyberpunk lately.
I heard they are making a movie of Neuromancer. Now THAT will kick ass.

Almost as good as Chris Tucker saying, "I'll slap you all the way back to the Ming Dynasty", hehehe

I saw the movie today and loved it. I am going to start reading the books after watching this movie.

The books rocked, Only i saw the previews and i was shocked to how stupid it looked. It maybe just because everytime they create a novel or series into a movie 80% of the time the movie blows chunks (i.e. Jurassic Park 2-3,Sleepy Hallow,Black Hawk Down etc.)
I could end up seeing it anyway because i've heard it was good even some say its better than the book. But on this movie I'm just "judging the book by its cover"

The movie was good but the ending was horrible with a cliff-hanger

The ending of the movie was the same as the ending for the first book.
The movie used visualization to tell much of the story as a movie should.
The movie also had an intro into the past history. This deviated from the book. But, it made it better in my opinion.
Some parts of the books can get quite bland. The movie is full and true to the story as I have seen no movie do before.

The Lord of the Rings was pretty good except for the really bad ending(even though its because theres more to come). The best part i would say is when the monster and the other guy battle it out. Overall though, it was pretty good .

Oh well i never even looked at the book but i am going to start reading it hopefully

I thought the movie was absolutely great, the costumes, scenery, etc. were extraordinary. The movie was very well directed and it was deffinitily worth the while to watch.

I thought it was the best movie I have seen in quite
a long time. There was a little bit of cheezy acting (but
only for about 5 minutes) here and there, but the
effects, the costmes and the atmosphere were all
absolutely perfect.

Yeah the scenery and landscaping were just perfect, most of the acting was pretty good too, only a few parts were kind of corny.

I took the opportunity today to see the movie again in the theatre.
I am still moved by the music, scenery and filmography.
I was blown away at the end of the movie. I knew how the movie would end. I expected everyone that hadn't seen it before to gasp like last time at the cutoff ending.
To my surprise, the movie didn't end as before. There are a few minutes of added narration and scenes from "The Two Towers" - the next sequel. It changed the whole ending.
For me, it was well worth watching again. My hat goes off to New Line Cinema for enhancing the show.

Umm... you saw the movie in a theatre today? How long has it been in theatres? LOTR departed the big screens a long time ago.

Um.. sorry.. not to nitpick or anything, but did you mean cinematography? Filmography means something totally different.
Anyways..
You mean something's been added to the movie at the end? When did that happen?
Posted by: Canis Lupus
I think Kaneth just means that a short teaser for The Two Towers has been added right after the FOTR movie ends, so that people will catch a glimpse of what happens next...
It gives people (who haven't read the book) something to look forward to, instead of really annoying cliffhangers
Posted by: Kdr Kane
Wars! Big battles and sieges!
And somebody gets rid of their drab and grey...
Posted by: Xtren
Too bad that preview of the Two Towers wasn't there when I got to see the movie. I really didn't like the ending to it and that part really annoyed me. Now I'm reading the books though.
