This would be a great way to make a living, only if your good enough!

Can playing videogames be a legitimate profession?

So what do you want to be when you grow up? How about playing games for a living? Tournaments drawing gamers to compete for ever-increasing cash prizes are starting to pop up all over the world. A precious few players make their entire living from competing in gaming events.

I guess if you don't have to worry about supporting a family you can give this occupation a try! Sounds like the prize money is substantial. Catch the full story here.

Do they have RPG tournaments? The only tournaments I have ever seen are Fighters, FPS, RTS and Dance Dance Revolution(which is awesome to watch). There was a tournament last year near me in San Fransisco that was for DDR. I went down there to watch, some people do insane moves on there.

Being a professional gamer must be a horrible occupation. Think about it...playing games till your sick because you have to hone your skill. It would soon become an occupation, another chore. Furthermore, traveling around like the rodeo circuit cowboys on a tight schedule with little rest and relaxation...and to top it all off..knowing that you will be beat someday by some half aged youngster with quicker reflexes and better eyesight that is a blessing to youth. Imagine the stress to win so that you can go on to the next tournament.

Hmmm...doesn't sound all that thrilling to me..I would lump it with professional game tester. Something that from the exterior looks like gold..but when examined closer, is just plain lead underneath.

I agree with Chako. It's not a game if it's required of you.
