Recall on the melting DSL modems
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Now we know that downloading MP3s and giant movie files doesn't melt your modem, it will happily melt itself for you:
The power supplies shipped with some of the ARESCOM DSL modems sent to Earthlink subscribers between October 2000 and November 2001 may overheat and melt.
While only certain units are affected, it is important that you check the power supply on your DSL modem to be sure.
If your modem is one of the affected kind, Earthlink strongly recommends that you replace the faulty power supply by following the steps outlined below.
If the serial number on the back of ARESCOM power supply ends with a "Q" or "QC", then your power supply is not affected and there's nothing you need to do.
If the serial number does NOT end with a "Q" or "QC", please visit the link below and fill out the "Power Supply Replacement Request Form." Within five to seven business days after you do this, ARESCOM will ship you a replacement power supply at no charge.
After you receive your replacement power supply, you may discard the original.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter, and thank you for choosing Earthlink.
Sincerely,
The Earthlink Safety Team

Aren't DSL modems made to handle the high-speeds and not melt?
I find this funny

It's not the modem that's melting, it's the power supply to it.
