Sharp To Up LCD TV Production

A move I was expecting to see very soon, as LCD monitors and production processes are becoming cheaper and cheaper. LCD screens look great for TVs, and I don't think we will miss the old tube from last century. Digitime's has the story on Sharp:

Sharp plans to further increase its LCD TV production capacity by ramping up its Mie 2 production line and adding another line at Yaita, Tochigi Prefecture.

The company launched Aquos LCD TV series in January and sold 200,000 units within eight months. The 13-inch model, the cheapest model, accounted for 55% of its sales by volume, indicating a popular acceptance of low-price products.

Sharp plans to further lower the per-inch price of small to medium LCD TVs (smaller than 20 inches) from 10,000 yen to 5,000 yen by 2003 by increasing LCD TV production and sales.
