From its cutting-edge graphics processor to the video game industry's first built-in hard drive, Microsoft's Xbox has been praised as one of the most technologically sophisticated game devices ever. But that's just not good enough for hardware and software experimenters who have been tinkering with the Xbox since the day it went on sale.
Well, you know what they say "If There Is The Will They Will Find A Way!"

the video game industry's first built-in hard drive

Correct me if Im wrong, but wasnt there another system before the xbox that had a built in hard drive? Like 3do or Jaguar or something?

The 3do either had a harddrive or a flash card built in. I'm not sure which, I just know it had internal storage. It was probably a flash card though.

it was flash memmory same way they do the memmory addon cards u have to buy for just about each
PS1 and 2 game bumping up the prices of games

Ehh?
You don't have to buy a memory card for each game. Especially on the PS2... I have yet to fill up my memory card, despite the fact that I have like a billion saves.

I have just now barely filled my card. 2.4 mb of it though is the DVD Drivers.

I have filled mine up, pretty quick too... I already had to delete some saves. Play a few games that require 500kb of space and it all goes away too fast

i did not in any way mean a one to one card game ratio but having to buy a lot of those things is a big drawback since they are not cheap and from seeing my brother with em on his ps2 im glad the xbox has a HD to hold my saves. i can see that as games progress they will grow in size for the saves. having internal storage for such a thing was a big selling point for me. since i think that gaming console is very limited in what they could do till the Xbox consoles were never really an attractive gaming option to me. i remember the dread days of wondering when the watch battery in the nintendo games would poof and delete ur game progress and from seeing those flash cards in action and how often the ones my brother uses fail and delete his saves im grateful for my HD in the Xbox.

I think the harddive is great for saving games, but really, I won't trust something with moving parts compared to a flash memory chip. I've never had a memory card die on me. But I've seen plenty of harddrives die in my lifetime. I think that's the main issue with the X-Box, is the fact that it has a severely reduced life because of the harddrive.
Time will tell, but I bet over the next few years, you'll see a lot of xboxes with failed harddrives.
As my counterpoint, I still have a supernintendo that works great despite being over 10 years old. And being dropped, thrown, bumped, knocked off shelves, you name it.

Yes but Nova..YOU have had nothing but bad luck with HDs. I have yet to see a HD die.
Knocks on wood.
point well taken though.

It's Microsoft that will bottom out the Xbox. Compare the way MS treats their vendors with Sony or Nintendo, even Saga and the MS way will spell doom for this box.
It's one thing to negotiate hardline with the mainline computer manufacturing companies, and another to treat the game makers that same way.
Unless they change their hardline ways, or bring in-house all the development, MS will have a real struggle kicking Sony off the hill.

I wonder if anyone buys the Xbox memory cards? Because if they ever lost their hard drive, good bye save games.

You don't have a clue what you are talking about. I've dealt with Microsoft about X-Box issues, and they are NO DIFFERENT from any other console maker. 'Hardline'? You should have made a game for the dreamcast. That's true hardline.
