@Home employees: Pay stub to pay snub

The man who knows "How" will always have a job but the man who is allowed to state that he knows "Why" will always be his boss.

As I read this article I became very ill. But I shouldn't be surprised, after all companies have been doing this for years to employees. Nothing for the little guy! Yet, Mgt. gets taken care of! Welcome to the Real World! In my home town I have seen people lose their jobs and receive very little compensation. I myself have felt the blow unemployment delivers. Jobs (Good Paying) are hard to come by these days, they say "You should live within your means". So that means what after you get laid off, I have to get 2 or 3 jobs at $7.00 or $8.00 dollars an hour to allow me to live high off the hog???

Companies today care about one thing. Proft! Oh sure I understand the importance of making a profit, but when is it enough? Answer "Never". Seems to me we as a country have forgotten the real importance of life caring for one another, taking care of our own! Instead of encouraging companies to move overseas because of cheap labor. I won't get into this topic, but damit this kind of buisiness practices has to STOP!! Forgive me for venting and getting off the subject alittle, just had to say something in the defense of the hard working people out there trying to survive!

The collapse of Excite@Home is riling employees and customers alike. In one corner, longtime workers who feel unappreciated and shortchanged. In the other, subscribers complaining of poor service. Which raises the question: Is it time to seriously consider regulation of Net access? Under terms of a deal negotiated with the company's creditors several months ago, top managers and executives are getting between four and nine months of severance pay. Most of the rest of the company, including those who have spent five years or more working their way up to relatively senior positions, are getting nothing.

It's not unusual for a bankrupt company to pull the plug without paying employees a cent. But the disparity in Excite@Home's arrangement has set some already bitter employees over the edge.

Whoa, with all the layoffs and cut backs people are starting to feel the pinch. I don't mean to sound preachy here but we've been having it real good for too long now.

Life's a beach with the high and low tides constantly changing. The one thing that's constant is change. So what's new, just some folks who have never experienced the down side yet and are getting yancy.

If you earned $30 an hour last year, and you cannot find that same kind of job, then you'll need to restructure your living to accomodate your new income.

We live in a 'for sale' society with ad messages bombarding us to buy buy buy. Yet we really don't need much to get by on. For those who feel disgruntled with our current situation I can recommend reading 'Waldens Pond.' If you're up for a fun time, take a few extra of those e-business dollars and fly to Mexico, or better yet Belize, where they speak english, to see how poor others can be and still smile and enjoy life.

Now that I've passed on my boot camp speach, let me say that where there's clouds there's also sun breaks. With this economy in a slump and 2002 under a cloud I see lots of opportunities for consulting and support services type work. I'm starting just such a business myself. If you need help setting on up just email me.

If you're willing to get a business license, all you really need is a bit of drive and determination to be able to offer downsized businesses some of your expertise. After they've laid off so many employees, they find themselves with needs their current staff cannot fulfill.

So quit your *****ing, figure out what you're good at, sit down and write yourself a one page business and a one page marketing plan, and just do it.

For those who just can't figure out what they are good at or what they want to do, look at some of the technical school offerings in your area. Usually within a short time you can find yourself certified in something.

Computers are not going away. They will just become more complex and needing more support.

Life's not a *****, life's a beach!

Have a great 2002.

This is my first post on this forum and I hope I didn't offend anyone. If I did, have a glass of your favorite wine and come back at me.

I will give you an even better one than all of this. Explain to me how someone can invest 600,000 in a baseball team that has been nowhere near a championship game in so long that nobody can remember, yet they got a new stadium paid for by the people and then when GW left he pocketed over 30 million on that little 600K investment?
Exactly, the little man got SCREWED again. And now that he is in DC he is able to further screw everyone by allowing things like this too happen more an more. I know that when the war quiets down, there is going to be a big stink raised over alot of this stuff. A lot of people lost entire life savings over Enron, etc. Lots of people lost lots of money on @home. Yet they still managed to pay the higher ups a severance package. Seems like the some old SH*T to me. Of course that is just my opinion, I could be wrong, NOT

if the bankruptcy judge allowed it, not much anyone can do about it. i just cant figure out why he allowed it.
