Post your system specs.

Without any info on your system to go on it's hard to say whats wrong.

But, did you make sure your video and sound card drivers are up to date? Are you running the latest patch of Diablo II?

Posted by: Immortal

Well i no you could do with some system specs but everytime i try run the program for em all it does is just crashes. So wat on earth is happening there and yes ive checked ive got up to date drivers and course ive got latest patch i play D2 LOD on the net so i keep posted on the new patchs.

Your random freezes problems could be the result of an IRQ conflict. This is not a true conflict in the sense that windows recognizes it but Diablo 2, for some reason, has a problem with two devices sharing an IRQ.

To fix this :

Right click on my computer,
Go to properties, then choose the device manager tab.
Click on my computer at the top and properties again.
Scroll down the list and you should see your sound card card or video card sharing with another device in your computer.
Free up an IRQ by disabling something

Restart the computer and one of the devices should automatically assign itself to the new IRQ.

If you are not comfortable with changing your IRQ settings, don't do it!

NOTE:

VIA Motherboard Users should download the "4-in-1" driver update that automatically detects and updates IRQ, AGP, IDE, and INF update. This fix should correct sluggish gameplay on high end systems and prevent lockups on VIA motherboards.

I hope this helps.

I have the exact same problem, I don't know why, but i think it has to do with my sound card. Bliz says that a GeForce3/SB Live! combo can cause problems, and the sound card has always been a bit wierd, sometimes giving me some really wierd sounds.
I'm trying the IRQ thing right now, but my Vid card is supposed to be in 11, and I hope it doesnt change that.

AMD Athlon T-Bird 900MHz @990
384 PC-100 (PC-100 sucks)
Asus A7Pro Motherboard (with newest Via 4-in-1's)
Windows 98 SP2
Sound Blaster Live! Value
GeForce3 TI-200

You might want to try reduce the CD ROM Cache read ahead to none, and turn off the auto-insert feature.
