Sounds like you are missing the video codec required to view it.

Which version of windows media player are you trying to use?

RealPlayer plays a wide variety of media, both locally and over the Internet. Some file types, such as AVI, can be played in RealPlayer if the codec that they were created with is installed on your computer. If you attempt to play clips that were created with a codec that is not installed on your computer, you will receive an "Unable to render video; [XXXX] decompressor not found" error, where [XXXX] is the file type.

You can download the codec here
http://www.divx.com/download/downloadlist.php?typeid=1

A codec is a specialized computer program that reduces the size of large files, such as a video. The uncompressed file would be far too large to download from the Web in a reasonable length of time. Before you can view the file, the codec must be used to decompress or undo the file compression after it has downloaded to your computer. Popular codecs include RealMedia and MPEG Audio; files created using these codecs use file extensions .rm and .mp3 respectively.

This should help.

Well, I had the same problem a while ago but I downloaded a new codec called DivX at divx.com and i could watch all the AVI files i could not have watched before. WMP and REALplayer would attempt to download the codec but it still would not work. Download DivX manually and install it and it should work
