Number of Web Sites Drop

Has the net reached it's peak, or just a slump? A survey conducted by Netcraft showed that the number of sites on the internet dropped by 182,142 from November to December. The survey also showed a decrease in the registering of domain names and the renewing of domain names. The current number of viruses and worms about hasn't help the matter either.

New domain names, such as .museum, .biz, .info, .aero, .name, .coop and .pro (I believe only .biz and .info are available right now), may help the number of registrations, but I don't see a large increase in the number of sites in the near future. The gains from advertising cannot support sites now, and a spot on the web isn't an affordable option for most non-business related sites.
