I have a small question, im running windows me 800mhz 192mb of ram with a nivda geforce 256, and i have it networked to a powermac(i think) using os 8.6 with 32 megs of ram, networked with pcmaclan software with the apple talk, tcp/ip and ipx network protocalls installed as well has internt connection sharring. now i want to play a game of starcraft on bnet with them both. we can both log on and use bnet. we can join games and play them at the same time. but if i try to make a game on the pc and the mac trys to join (or visavesra) it says that the latency of the game creator is too high. any idea how to fix this? also we are sharring a broad band cable connection.

I'm not really clear whether you're trying to play peer-to-peer or play together on battle.net. If you're trying to play on battle.net, then:

a) both computers must have their own unique copy of Starcraft
b) each computer must have its own IP address. Most cable modems only have one IP address when connecting to battle.net, therefore no matter how many computers are connected to the same line, only one IP address will register.

Consider asking your ISP for another IP address. It might cost you, it might not, it depends on your ISP.

well ok i guess i need a new ip. thats wierd becouse we can play at the same time on battle net just not with each other.

If you can play together at the same time on battle.net then a new IP isn't what you need.

Perhaps there is a software issue with your networking software.

Is it possible to try connecting to each other using the same connection, but NOT having your computers networked together?

What might be happening is that normally, when a computer sends a packet to a computer on the same LAN, that packet will actually just transfer straight across the LAN, instead of going over the internet. So what might be happening is that your software is taking too much time translating the packet to/from the mac.

Just a hunch on my part though.

maybe it is pc mac lan, i dunno, but you gave me an idea, maybe thats the proplem is that the packets are just going straight over the lan and skipping battlenet when we try to connect together, and maybe thats what couses the error msg. that error msg is often misleading. it does not always mean that the creotor has to much lag

StarCraft doesn't support 2 comps on 1 IP in the same game, if he had 2 IP's then he would be able to play in the same game at the same time, now he can play in every game except when the other comp is in it. The same happens with Diablo1, I got that problem too (well, not really a problem for me since I don't play D1 and SC ).

There's nothing you can do about it except get another internet IP.

You can play on B.net with 1 IP, just not in the same game. Sometimee you will play together in the same game, (if you both join someone elses game) but then the lag will be horrible.

There are some routers that you can tweak and be able to play together on B.Net.

well thanks for all yalls help i just wont be playing mulitplayer with the mac. oh well. macs suck anyways

Posted by: PhantomGamer

So you can still play the missisons so then you will be good when you go on B.net

It can be done with NAT but it's highly unstable, and diffcult to get working, even at an unstable level.

IP Tables can also be used. Learn about those in a networking course.

I have a very similar problem but much worse.
I am connected with a networked cable through 3 computers. I can join peoples games fine but whenever anybody trys and joins my games they cant. It says something like the latency of the game creator is to high.
This problem is devistating for me because I am a mapper and I cant release my maps. Before I got my computers networked i could make games fine. Now ever since my comps were networked this problem occurs. Please help

P.S. This problem also occurs with Counter-Strike

Posted by: godsdumpster

Are you using ics? if you are try using a diff nat based program im using winroute and it works pretty fine. it helped my proplem at least. i was the one who started this tread

Posted by: darkknight1223

how do i find out if i am using ics?

Posted by: godsdumpster

well do you share your internect connection in microsoft 98 or me or xp or any others besides 95. then your propley using isc. but you should know if you are or not becouse you set it up. its not turned on by defult.

Posted by: darkknight1223

the network is shared between two MEs and one 98

Posted by: godsdumpster

well if thats the case and they share the internet your most likley using ics. i would get wingate but if you use it you can only play with the ones behind the nat server. not on the nat server itself. or else buy somemore ips

Posted by: darkknight1223

what do you mean by buy some more ips?

Posted by: Shalome

ips = IP addresses.. you can pay more to your ISP to have separate IP addresses for each comp on your home network.

Posted by: godsdumpster

its true. but it kinda gets pricey i would just use the nat thing and go with out bieng able to play on the server one

Posted by: darkknight1223

why would I need 3 seperate ip addresses if only 1 computer goes on bnet?

Posted by: godsdumpster

oh you wouldnt then you would just need one. but i thought you wanted to use a client. just use the server comp for bnet.

Posted by: darkknight1223

when you say the server comp, do you mean the comp that has the router software instaled on it? I tried playing on that computer and it worked once... people could join once... every gamer after that however noone joined. Also when people joined the first time they noticed that the game had alot of lag.

Also I have noticed that on my computers, my friends can join my games if I join there game first

Posted by: godsdumpster

uh try port mapping incoming upd packets to 6112 i think thats the port might want to double check the bliz site. you can do that with either the server computer or a client just not both

Go watch the movie after the zerg level in the science vessel, that'll change your mind

Posted by: MLXMariners

hehe...I used codes to watch all the movies w/out having to play the missions...that's after i got bored playing the missions.

Posted by: ZeRo_MaXwInG

SC missions are pretty tough and the movies are pretty rewarding. Can't wait for WC3
