Being that I've had over 3 nosebleeds in the past three days, I'd like to ask you guys...
What's YOUR method of stopping a bloody nose? (not when you get hit, mind you, the ones that come outta nowhere)

I get those, usually when I wake up in the morning. You think to yourself while you're a tired wreck "Damned nose is runny again!" then get to the basthroom and realize it's blood, very annoying.
I hold shut the one nostril with light pressure until I can tell it's been clogged, while still leaving the other open for breathing. I then gently blow the clog out and it's all better so long as I don't sneeze for a few hours.

There is a very effective way to stop this. Take a piece of tissue paper, gume, whatever, and put it between yor gum and upper lip, in the very from, between your two front teeth, make sure theres pressure. You nosebleed will stop almost instantainiously. Supposedly theres a vain or pressurepoint of somekind right there. My 5th grade teachr tought me this a loooooooooong time ago.

I use a cloth run under very cold water. Tilt head forward, pinch nostril with cloth. The cold helps stop the bleeding, and the cloth helps keep you from dripping all over the place.

Keep your room well humidified. Even one of those small ones can make a world of difference in preventing nose bleeds. That is assuming it is caused by dry air from Winter.

Actually it tends to happen in the summer -_-

Your house could still be excessively dry in the summer. Buy yourself one of those little table top fountains if nothing else and place it in your bedroom, or better yet, a very small humidifier.
Nosebleeds from out of nowhere are usually caused by very dry conditions. Another thing you should check is your blood pressure.

neither san fancisco nor long island have low humidity in the summer. unless one lives in a meat locker.

I stop my nosebleeds by blowing my nose.
It works too. Gets out the clot that's causing it. I think I heard somewhere that you get nosebleeds when a blood clot forms and blocks your blood flow so it goes out through your nose instead of going to where it belongs. I don't know how true that is, but whenever I blow my nose when I have a nosebleed, this goo comes out and then the nosebleed stops.
One of us needs to find out from a doctor why we get nosebleeds.

you get nosebleeds when the tissue in your nose near the blood vessels thins and breaks. other than some kind of trauma (including picking your nose) it can be caused by high blood pressure, low humidity, clotting disorders, various other medical conditions, and just genetic bad luck. lets hope the latter is your problem, eh?

Yes, cramming things in your nose tends to cause it to bleed. This means keep your toes out of there, uh...ok!
I've also found that sometimes blowing your nose too much will cause it to bleed.
