Posted by: Lord_Buttplug
Darky!. What the bloody hell did you see in U-571 to include it in the list? I must have missed something.
Posted by: AK47
just a wild guess, but perhaps he liked it. It was quite good. Not nearly as realistic (U571 was laughable) as Das Boot, but there was a much more action (although the action in Das Boot was freakin amazing).
I personally prefer Das Boot (it is a better movie, no doubt), but I dont always want to sit for 4 hours (there is an even longer version- longer than the "directors cut" that is released on dvd and video). For me, U571 is a good, action movie, that doesnt require much thinking (or reading)
Posted by: Lord_Buttplug
Hmmmm must be just me then. I thought it blew goats.
Posted by: Null Actor
U571 had good sound in the theater. That's about the only thing it had going for it.
<sarcasm> The part I liked best was the historically accurate story </sarcasm>
Impossible for me to pick a top 5 movies, cause there are far too many movies I like, and I like them all for different reasons. So I'll stick with the 3 movies that I can watch on repeat, and never get tired of them:
Star Wars: A New Hope (The old version, where Han shoots first, and jabba the hut doesn't look like a bad cartoon drawing).
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
Posted by: Bishop
SW 4 5 and 6.
usual suspects
the crow
Posted by: Spork Lover
Shawshank redemption
Midway
Independence Day (just cause of the presidents speech)
Matrix
Braveheart
can I throw in excalibur as well?
Posted by: Darky!
Anything that pertains to war, i generally like. I have a librar full of crap on war. Not a literal library, but a good-sized bookshelf.
If i could add to my list i'd add in...
Hamburger hill
Gung Ho!
Das Boot
Commandos (I don't remember the exact name but it was something along those lines)
The Big Red One
Red Planet
Space Cowboys
All the starwars stuff.
The Hobbit
Lord of the Rings
The King Returns
blah blah blah
I coould go on and on, but i don't think the forum would let me make a list that long.
Posted by: Bobaroo
I remebered some...
The Mighty Ducks 2 (all 3 r good, but 2 is the best)
Saving Private Ryan
The Sandlot
Posted by: RedTeMpeSt
I just remembered "SpaceBalls" that should be on my top 10 list somewhere,
Posted by: one
I tried Matrix a couple of times -- both times thought it was just too overdone. They shouldn't have grilled it so long.
Posted by: ashw
5. Independance Day (speech was awsome)
4. Braveheart
3. Gladiator
2. Top Gun
#1 movie of all time:
Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness
Posted by: The Bear Man
He He I Agree with you Nova, Its difficult to pick out 5. But its still hard to beat Mad Max and The Road Warrior. But I have a great Dobly Digtal / DTS surround sound system in my place, so movies sound and look great. You would be surprised how much better a movie is with great sound 5.1 channel is. DVD is the only way to go! Oh ashw, SexyBreastlegs says hello hehe.

hehe ashw, Army of Darkness was an awesome movie! Have u seen the extended versions of it? DVD will probably look and sound great! I like the alternate ending of the movie, it quite different. Bruce Cambell is good in all of his movies. I really liked him as Atalicus, in Hercules and Zena.

I dont really have a top 5 but some movies that are overlooked that were really good are: The Burbs and Nothing But Trouble.

Lord of the Rings?
What exactly is the criteria for judging the best movies?
Posted by: Chako
Ha. it isn't as bad as its sequel, which I had the unfortunate pleasure of recently renting......Scary Movie 2!
And to think, a few days before I rented it, at the same store, I saw an 8 year old asking Mom if she could rent it for him, at which point she said yes and took it home....HA! For those of you who have seen this travesty of film making..it is not suited to anyone alive with a few brain cells a ticking, let alone an 8 year old.

yes, parents are extremely ignorant to what their kids rent. Where I work, kids come in with their parents card and they basically rent whatever they want. I let them because 9 times out of 10, the parent never set up any rental restrictions on their account. Then, when the parent comes back demanding why I let their 7 year old child rent South Park the Movie, or Scary Movie, I just point out two things : you have no rental restrictions on your account, and you didnt come with the kid. Oh, they get p*ssed when I tell them it was their fault all along. oh well, thats ignorance

1. Lord of the Rings
2. Gladiator
3. The Patriot
4. Star Wars (1st 3)
5. Pearl Harbor (the part where the Japanese attack)
And thats it. I got the best movie list of all!
