Removing Borland Database Engine

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: twinter

Some software I was evaluating (Legalex calendaring program) installed a different version of the Borland Database Engine on my P133 computer running Windows 98SE. This caused another (critical) program (Timeslips) to cease running. I have gone in to the registry and deleted all references to "Borland" but when I try to reinstall Timeslips I get the message "Borland Database Engine is running--cannot install" For the life of me, I can't find what program is running the BDE. I do my installs without any programs open, and only Explorer and Systray showing on "Ctrl-Alt-Delete". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciateted.

Have you tried looking under "Legalex" in regedit? Also, go to START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and go to the STARTUP tab ... see if anything that is checked there is not supposed to be running in the background ...

Post back on your progress and stick around for more suggestions ...

You also might try the BDE control panel (located, oddly enough, in the control panel ), and see if you can turn off BDE there.

I know I used to have all kinds of trouble with BDE. Borland needs to get their act together and make newer versions backwards compatible.
