Windows XP and IPX protocol

Hello.
I have one computer running XP and one running 98. They are networked through a Linksys 4 port router and connected to Cox @Home.
I want to play Warcraft, but the thing only supports IPX networks. The protocol is installed on both computers, and the 98 computer apparently detects it because I can get into the multiplayer IPX option in Warcraft, but the XP computer detects no IXP network. What do I need to do to get XP to use the protocol? Is it the router/hub 's fault?
The network apparently is handling TCP/IP communication just fine. File sharing and internet access are working correctly on both systems, it just bothers me that I can't play Warcraft , and that Windows XP seems to be so inflexible about this.
Thank you VERY much for any help you could offer.

Have you installed the IPX protocol on the XP computer?
Just go into Network and Dial-Up Connections and look at the Properties for your network card. Click Install and select the NWLink IPX/SPX Protocol.
I'd be interested in what version of XP you are running - Home or Professional.

Yes, the protocol is already installed on both computers, but the XP machine seems to be refusing to use it, or else Warcraft can't "see" it somehow; perhaps it is too old? In DOS? The XP version is Home by the way. Thank you for your willingness to help.

All you have to do is add an IPX protocol manually. Right-click on My network places, choose properties, there on the Local Area Connection press RMB again, and choose for properties. In the upcoming window, press the install-button, and choose there for "protocol". Select the IPX/SPX protocol from the list, hit continue several times, and you're done! Now the games using IPX run perfectly!!

I would verify that your router will support IPX between computers on your LAN. I would tend to doubt it unless it says so.

Might wanna confirm that each machine running IPX/SPX has the "auto select" option enabled for the packet type in the properties.
