shrinker.err

Getting shrinker.err error message when opening certain applications
including Microsoft. This may or may not be related to the nimda virus as
it started after this virus was cleaned out. I have not found much on this
file, but it appears to be more of a log file generated when trying to open
apps and gets stuck. It leaves the file on the desktop. My concern is that
it could be related to a virus activity that could assist in triggering
exe's to re-infect machines.

Any specifics on this file and what it's purpose is would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

After doing some general research, I found that "shrinker.err" is an error that will occur if the product PowerZip 4.50 is installed and fails to start. PowerZip is a Windows utility, a compression tool much like WinZip -- not virus-related. The shrinker.err error is corrected in the PowerZip 4.51 release.

If you use this program, just get the newest version (they're up to release version 5.2) and that should fix your problem.. or, just uninstall the PowerZip program altogether if you don't use it.

This program is not connected with any version of the Nimda or any other virus.
