Problem with Direct X

When loging into Starcraft, I get the error mesage that I have problems with direct x and that Starcraft was unable to find ddraw.dll.
I have defragged and used scan disk on my system and still cannot access the game. I was able to play a couple of weeks ago until someone messed with the computer and now all I get is this message.
Is there any way to fix this?

You should try reinstalling DirectX from the program CD.

what version are you running? 8? many older games wont run on it
