Has anyone else noticed that RAM prices have recently skyrocketed? Not only ram, but lots of computer related items... a stick of non buffered non parity 256mb DDR pc2100 is now 71$ at crucial... I only payed 45$ for mine a month and a half or so ago..
Did I miss something? Holidays shouldn't have driven the prices up THAT much...

Yeah, I paid $36 for a 256MB stick of Crucial PC2100 at the end of September.

If you need RAM, get it now. Prices are going to up even more.

Why?
Posted by: Chako
Because they are commodities.
Supply and demand.

Supply and Demand my ass. Hynix(sp) raised prices to keep their ass afloat and everyone else followed suit.

RAM prices were getting too cheap, the profit wasn't worth it anymore so they all closed the factories to make the price go up again.
At least that's what I heard about a month ago, dunno if has anything to do with this but it sure is a coincidence that the prices are so high all of a sudden.

damnit I hate this... I Procrastinate so much I don't get cheap RAM.

There was little profit margins..what did you think?

I thought I read somewhere all the major companies were losing millions of dollars last year, so prices are going up again this year.

Im glad I have all the ram I'll ever need...768 ... I have a hard time using 15% of that.
It was just a matter of time before this happened... the market was being flooded with the stuff. The prices drop, the compaines counter by decreasing output, prices go up....
Same thing happened with oil not too long ago... that summer was great... 85 cents a gallon..now look at it..blah.

I need some ram and I bet ill have a hell of a time getting some now. At least samsung's ram prices havent gone way up yet, I need some PC800 128mb chips and they still have them for $38..

Well, RAM prices were never affordable for me since my P4 makes me use RDRAM. I have 256 MB, but if I had DDR or SD, I'd get 512 MB for total in a heartbeat.

It's really sucking for people like me, who just got a decent system and need a bit more Ram.. I got my Samsung chip with the CPU deal for only 52 cranks after taxes. And this is the PC2100 buffered / ECC / Registered. You don't want to even know the price that was on the Crucial 512mb.. Much less the 1Gb chips.. Cost more than my proc and mobo for half of them...
