XP/Scanner trouble - Help please!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a good Christmas!

Now, on to my problem

I have an old Umax Astra 610p (no power switch) scanner, it is plugged into the computer, power outlet...everything is plugged in the right way.

XP tells me the device is working fine, when I load up Paint or any program to scan things, it says

"Unable to retrieve image from device, verify the device is properly connected and try again"

I need to scan some pictures for a website, but unfortunately I get this error

Any help would be appreciated

Does it hook up to an LPT port? If so, go into your BIOS and make sure the LPT ports are set to the right settings. Theres 3 different settings. I don't remeber them exactly, but your scanners manual should tell you wich one you need to set it on.
If it doesn't hook up to your LPT port, make sure you have the proper drivers. http://www.umax.com/support/download.html

Als while browsing umax's site, it says your printer is compatible with Microsoft Paint, so see if it workes there.

Hmm, Im not sure if it's a typo in your post, but Im having troubles with my scanner.

Well, My scanner has only 2 cables sticking from it, 1 is to the power outlet on the wall, and the other hooks up to the back of my computer tower, its also the biggest thing back there...is that the LP slow thing your talking about?

Thanks for your help so far, hopefully ill get this problem resolved soon...

It was a typo, I always think of printers when I think of LPT ports, sorry.

LPT port, also known as a Parralel (Sorry, I can't spell at the moment, brain is asleep) Port. Its a long port, probably the largest on the back of your computer.

Anyway, try the drivers, and post back if they help or not.

Well, I tried to use the XP built in drivers, and I rebooted the comp, and IT WORKED!!!

Thank you A LOT!!! ^_^
