Possible IRQ 9 conlict

I noticed while playing EQ that when I was on a raid with more that 24 people nearby, and we were battling, that I would suffer from lag. This seemed to be due to the amount of data being sent to my computer by the game, also during battles there are a lot of sounds happening. I have a USRobotics 56K gaming modem that connects at 49666 and SB Live Value. In reviewing my IRQs I noticed that both the modem and SB Live used IRQ 9 with different input/output range addresses. I was wondering if this could be a part of the cause of my lag.
The PCI modem card does not have any jumpers to select which IRQ to use, and is automatically detected and the drivers loaded by windows mellenium. I have no install disk or cd.
I think that the same is basically true for the SBLive Value.
Device manager says that I have no conflicts.
Does anyone know if there really is a conflict, and if so, how do I go about getting a different IRQ assigned. I tried reserving IRQ 9 and in device manager removeing the modem and hopping that the next power up would assign it to a different IRQ, but evidentially IRQ 9 is needed by the motherboard, as the computer would not boot up normally and I had to make IRQ 9 availalbe again.
I tried plugging the modem into a different PCI slot Windows Mellenium insisted on assigning IRQ 9.

Good to hear from you, t'kron.
If I remember correctly, on the old PC motherboards, IRQ 9 was reserved for video cards. But, that was before the advent of PCI architecture.
PCI busses normally use IRQ 10 and/or IRQ 11. All devices on the PCI bus will share the IRQ.
Your computer is using IRQ 9 the same way that IRQ 10 or 11 would be used. This is set by the motherboard. Setting certain slots to run on particular IRQ's is sometimes allowed in the BIOS setup. I'd be happy to look at your motherboard specs/manual if you know the model number and manufacturer.
I don't see this as being a big problem with the symptoms as described. This is more of a performance tuning issue. I generally feel that the lag is caused by the processing of your computer.
How about some specs on your computer?

Hi Kdr Kane, long time no see.
You were absolutely correct, I was able to change the bios to say that PCI slot #3 (the one that has the model card) should use IRQ 3 (shared with COM2 which has no devices attached)
FYI here are my Computer specs:

CPU INTEL P3 933Mhz 133MHZ BUS PGA

So, how is it working now?

Seems to be working a bit better, the slight pauses are gone in normal game play but there still seems to be lag during larger raids, but this too has improved. I attribute the continued lag to my slower ISP. I have a 56K modem which connectss at 49666, seemed fast when I first got it but now pales to Cable or DSL. It may be time to upgrade my internet connection.
