OK before Winter Break my government teacher told us to keep up with the news - especially about the hundred or more Americans of Middle Eastern descent who were arrested and held for questioning...
A few days ago in class someone mentioned about the US building internment camps for those people...
I've looked all over the Internet and cannot find a SINGLE damn clue about any of the above happening... am I the only one? And if not, can you please give me some links?

The US is not building internment camps for people of middle-eastern descent. Your classmate is an alarmist idiot. US citizens detained for federal questioning are being held in federal prisons (not bad places, as far as prisons go...).
They did build a prison at the US Guantanamo Bay base in Cuba to hold prisoners of war from Afghanistan -- probably because bringing those people onto US continental soil would have been too dangerous for everyone involved. The people in this prison are not American citizens of middle-eastern descent.
Tell your classmate to check his/her facts before speaking.

shal, actually they didnt have to build it. it was used to hold cuban refugess until the last couple years, so it just needed to be spruced up.
yes, uhok, all those detained are being held in normal facilities. id say your friend doesnt know what an internment camp is. anyway, your teacher is rather silly, because theres not much news to be found about these people, except for the occasional one paragraph update. your best bet is to go back to, id say, oct to find some stuff.

You're right wench.. and yeah, what news does the teacher expect to see? They haven't even released the names of the detainees yet.
Although... Canada did officially file a grievance over a Canadian citizen who has been detained. The Canadian government hasn't been given the right to speak with the detainee (which they should be granted, I forget under which convention/treaty).
So.. um.. I guess pissing off Canada is news.

heh... there are tons of people of middle eastern descent that were held for questioning...but it was not liked they were picked up off the streets cause they sounded foreign... or cause the women had veils over their faces... The ones that were picked up have been targeted for a while.... the fbi/cia/nsa.... have watched a certain number of people who they have thought were tied to bin laden and his al qaida(huh!?) network.... i mean your teacher doesnt really think they arrest these people at random does he? Does he think that the knowledge of bin laden ties just appears in these agencies just because of 9/11....sorry if you arent following me...but in a nutshell...
yes people were picked up, yes they were questioned, but it was not at random, they have been targeted for a while.... this type of action was just brought into the limelight because of 9/11... bin laden's organization, and people tied to have been followed since the first WTC happening
