Diablo II won't start

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

This is my second posting as Blizzard has not come back with a solution.

I am having problems running Diablo II on my laptop running Windows 2000.

I applied the latest patch, latest DirectX, latest Video Drivers and still the game wont start. There is a process Game.exe that starts with the Diablo II process. Game.exe sucks 97% of CPU but the game never starts. when I kill Game.exe I get a CD Rom drive Error: Diablo was unable to locate your CD-ROM drive.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and I still get the same problem.

I am running this in a DVD rom drive that is not removable and is the only such drive.

I am using the original Diablo II CD and made sure it is clean.

Anyone have any suggestions as this is driving me crazy!

You could check to find out which games can run under Win2000 here http://www.ntcompatible.com
Another possibility is to install the latest MS Application Compatibility Update from the MS Download Center after installing the the apcompat.exe from your Win2000 CD (install it via support/tools/setup from CD). Following the description how it works:

Hope this helps.
