eWeek is reporting on an article of the problems the frequently released XP patches are creating. Windows XP is set to download patches automatically by default. The article advises to turn off automatic updates and set it to notify you when a patch is available.
XP users said the updates cause systems to become unstable and some device drivers to stop working.
"The patches are coming with such unbelievable frequency these days that it's very hard to tell exactly what is being changed and which patch is causing the problems," said Jason Perlow, president of Argonaut Systems Corp., a systems integrator in Tenafly, N.J., that runs and deploys XP for companies.
The article also states that the updates' descriptions are not helpful. That could definately cause some problems for any troubleshooter. Read on here.

None of this was ever a problem when Windows 2000 came out. The only real problem it had at release was lack of drivers.

this is why i dont use XP and do not intend to start using it here. i cant imagine the chaos that would cause me. 40 odd comps all clogging our network trying to dload the latest MS backdoor.... all these companies that go on the advice of their tech person telling them they "need" to update to XP just cuz MS released it should be fired. there is no reason on earth a business need that i can think of to upgrade to XP.
