The Evil Closed Captioning

Saw this on Wired News. It should be good for an evening laugh:

LAS VEGAS -- About 10 years ago, Diane LaPierre of Calgary, Alberta, decided to help her 9-year-old son develop his reading skills by having him read aloud the closed captions on the TV.

LaPierre, the mother of four boys, was alarmed by what he read on a Simpsons episode: "'moron,' 'jerk,' all those name-calling words that catch on at that age." Soon, her son began watching closed-captioned cartoons just so he could learn to spell those "naughty words."

By then, LaPierre had had enough.

One of those things that makes you say "hmmm...k." Must be a slow news day.

You wouldn't believe some of the script changes that finally go out with the Simpsons.

I have closed captioning enabled all the time on my TV. Although they update the released Simpsons show, the closed captioning follows the original script rather than what is said.

Albertans suck.

I know, I used to live there.

"We're taking the P out of PG," LaPierre said proudly.

Gosh, now parents can do an even better job of letting the media raise their kids! Way to go.. what a terrific mom! Bet she lets the schools teach her kids the facts of life as well.

And people throw up their hands and wonder about the state of society.

Hiding the truth helps nothing.

Don't want your kid to curse? Why of course, use censors! Don't want your kid to shoot someone? Take the guns away! No sex, no drugs? Remove late social activities. Take it all away! Remove their eyes, their ears. Steal their life!

Knowing is not doing. Parents should teach their kids. Show them what comes of actions. Show them what's "wrong". The women and men like the one in this article sicken me.
