Angry HP Customers

Taken from Silicon.com:

Angry Hewlett-Packard customers have forced the computer manufacturer into a U-turn after it scrapped recovery disks for its latest range of Pavilion PCs.

HP ditched the standard backup CDs in favour of installing Windows XP recovery files on a partition on the hard drive, prompting scores of users to complain.

Customers posted irate messages on HP's technical support site and bombarded the manufacturer with phone calls demanding to be sent the disks.

The article also reports that HP will send a recovery disk to users who complain, but will not add them into the newer Pavilions. A very nice PR department, HP...good job. Read the full article.

Thank god I bought my HP in July! I wouldnt wanna be stuck with that crap.

Why dont the people that are complaining just put the partition of the backup files onto some CD's instead of complaining about it? Its not that hard to do seeing as how 99% of HP computers have CD burners now...

because it is not something that the user should have to do. they are paying for an operating system CD and manual and activation key and only getting the key. 90-120$ of the cost of every computer is the cost of the operating system. if HP does not care to supply the customer with a product they are paying for then im sure there are some lawyers somewhere that will dispute it. personally i think its low and cheap of HP to make the end user have to waste disk space they are paying for by making an unneccessary partition that requires the user to buy software to repartiotion the drive to get that space back. i know it would irritate me to no end to buy a new comp and find out that not only are the files for windows stored on C: that my backups in case of a HD failure are also on the hard drive?!??!?? the XP restore function does not replace the system if a new HD is needed or something happens to the core OS itself. the restore funtion only restores the registry and key system files. i like HP laser printers and some of their periphrial systems like tape backups etc. but i think their comps are junk. their tech help is next to nothing. and after sale support is abyssmal.
