Anyone interested in using a Pentium 4 with DDR memory may want to read this article from VR Zone. In it they compare all the different DDR chipsets available for the Pentium 4 including ones from Intel, VIA, ALi, and SiS.
Intel 845B0 is quite a surprise winner here and is definitely not as weak as initially thought. I would say Intel own brands of boards might not have the performance features in built into them that had caused quite a performance setback. Taiwan motherboard manufacturers like EPoX with their 4BDA2+ have saved the Intel day as their 845B0 solution is definitely a screamer here. Intel 845B0 is bestowed with good memory bandwidth with low latencies as well as the Intel Application Accelerator that certainly speed certain applications up. VIA P4X266A is particularly fast as well especially in applications that demand memory bandwidth and was able to run neck to neck with Intel 845B0 in most applications.
