Hallo, I once again have a question about my father and his Sony Vaios. He is also interested in a Vaio desktop model and it states on the ridiculous placard Best Buy has on everything that it has an nVida TNT2 graphics card. Now I have a plethora of former computers I could scavange a card from if need be and I was wondering if it would be worth it to take it from a previous one or to just keep the nVida TNT2.

Unless that previous card is a GeForce 256 or higher, keep the TNT2. I have a TNT2(upgrading very soon to a GeForce 3) and it works fine for everything I have.

Ah well, I'm not too sure as to what the one I have now is, I'm pretty sure it's an nVida somethig or other, but it's not a GeForce anything that much I know. Okay so TNT2 it is then.

In a few months(i dont know how many exactly) the GeForce 4 will be comming out and it should lower the prices of the previous Nvidia Cards. I plan on buying a GeForce 3 when the GF4 hits.

Well, TNT's aren't that bad of cards, it'd be better to have some sort of GeForce 2 somewhere within that desktop.

Why is the TNT2 badmouthed? Mine works fine. Its not GeForce 2, but it gets the job done. If it sucked that bad, I wouldnt be able to kill anyone on RTCW.
I just started running RTCW Windowed in 800x600 and it added almost 30fps to my average fps. Now I get about 50 to 70 instead of 20. Of course though when I get a newer card, back to 1024x768 full screen it will go.

Omg! I cannot believe that some are still using a TNT2. If so, it had better be an Ultra.
I still have 2 TNT2 Ultras kicking around. One is in my fathers system (all he does is play card games), the other is collecting dust right next to an even older TNT and a voodoo V5500.
I found the TNT2 Ultras lackluster with the newer game titles. Don't even look at the M64 variant. That is even slower then the Ultras, seeing that it was aimed squarely at the business market.
Do yourself a favor and get the cheapest Geforce 2 MX400 out there. With those going at bargain basement prices, there is no reason to stick with or even consider buying a TNT2.

I've got a PNY GeForce 2 MX400, paired up with the Athlon XP 1700+, it makes for one nice gaming rig. Specially against my old rig, that was using the GF2, but previously had the Voodoo 3 3000 teamed up with a P3 450Mhz. I like it, but still, it's only until I can get me a new GeForce 3 Ti-500

My Vanta TNT2 is a 16mb card, and i play CS at 1024x768 getting 10fps, yuk!! Old, bad card
I am going to get a GeForce3 Ti200 in about a week. New, good card
