Re: GeForce 3/4 pricing

I see a lot of people assuming that the GF3's prices will drop when the GF4 comes out.

Don't count on it.

The price on the GF3s right now is mostly because of the ram. Ram that runs at that speed, is still pretty expensive.

So the likely situation is: GF3=Expensive, GF4=More Expensive.

There won't be any price drops until the ram itself becomes cheaper to produce, which won't likely happen just because the GF4 is coming out.

Note that I could be wrong here, but I really don't think I am.

I think they will drop in price. Hasnt each Nvidia Chipset card dropped in price when a newer one comes out? Such as when the GeForce 2 was top notch, then the GeForce 3 came out. The GeForce 2 uses the same type and size of ram as the GF3.

Im gonna wait though either way. If they prices drop, ill get a GF3 Ti 500, if they dont, ill get a GF3 Ti 200.

Actually, the price on the GF2 Ultra (the one that uses the same kind of ram basically) didn't drop till almost 6 months after the GF3s release.

That's partially what I'm basing my assumptions on. The other GF2s got cheaper, but they used slower/easier to produce ram.

GF4's are going to be very expensive, and there is no point to having them. Most games don't even take advantage of the GF3's.

Well, there is always a point in having the absolute fastest. A GF4 will run your games at a better framerate, in a higher resolution than a GF3 will.

But I agree, it'll be very expensive.

Well, it's pointless for now imho.

I'll wait for GF3 Ti's line to go down in price, then' I'll place on in this system and have it last 4 years like my old 450 rig did.

GF4? What a joke, to expensive for the GF3 still
